Just saw the new Trek trailer, and I have only two things to say, the second of which is probably spoilery:

1) Kirk's mom is Allison Cameron! I giggled.

2) Cut for spoilers )

Basically, I am altogether too excited about this.

Not the end of the year yet, but others have been posting, and I am getting antsy. So, even if I wind up posting more fic before the New Year (which I will, since I have at least one fic that's just holding out for a beta, hurrah!), have a meme!

Hey, I did it last year, too!

And, yeah, I was a little more prolific this year. )

And how about you guys? Which fics worked for you? Which didn't? What would you like to see more of in the new year?

Because it is my day off, rambling!

1. First off, show of hands - who here gave up on House at some point? Eh? My hands are in the air, both of 'em, because while I stuck with the show until the end of season two (and I did watch season three eventually), I only had a couple moments of love for it after, oh, halfway through season one.

And this would be me, admitting that I was dead wrong to stop watching when I did.

Spoiler-free ramblings about House's season four, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Show Again. )

2. I've just started watching Due South, which is an adorable show that I have been meaning to see for a long time. I could mutter about Canadian stereotypes, but honestly? They've established that everyone north of the 49th finds him just as nutty. Hee.

(Also, heck, I've never been any further north in Canada than, uh, Peace River or possibly Grimshaw. I've never lived in a city with a population under 60,000 (and am currently living in North America's northernmost city with a metropolitan population of more than 1,000,000), so what do I know about the Yukon? Hee. Plus, cute premise, awesome characters, unexpected depths, and it's about how sometimes you really can believe the best in people and get away with it. I think I could really, really like this show. Although if nobody makes a "Dudley Do-Right" joke at some point, I will be sorely disappointed.)

Edit: Okay, joke's been made. I'm satisfied!

3. Now it's time for that meme where you post bits and pieces of your works-in-progress.

Here are some of the highlights I've been working on lately. )

Okay, that's enough of that. I'm giving too much away as it is! But yes. Fic!

4. And here's an offer I've been meaning to make, in the form of a meme, because I write lots of shortfic.

Have you ever read a fanfic that just begged to be expanded, to go beyond the hundred or thousand or ten thousand words into something more substantial? Have you ever come across an intriguing passage in a fanfic that made you want more elaboration, more detail? Well, now's your chance. Dig through my stories and let me know if there's a fic(let), an idea, a character you'd like to see expanded.

The more ideas, the better!
eponymous_rose: (let me show you them..)
I've just got around to watching the newest House episode. I'm only ten minutes in, but I think it may just have justified my sitting through the whole third season.

"Where's the restaurant?"

YES. I think I love this show again.

(Need an icon, don't I? Hm.)

So season three of House is very, very weird.  But I keep on watching for the absolutely bizarre plots (and was the coworkers-getting-attacked-by-bees joke a HOWSE shout-out?) and because the show is basically one big fanfic. :D  Also because it's the best feeling in the world to sit down and realize I actually haven't seen this episode.  Awesome.

Also: a local House-type thingie - a girl's heart regenerated.  How cool is that?

Ficathon entry's gonna be late.  *wince*  But, after attempting to write it from a totally random POV, I found my problem!

...I forgot a plot.

Yes.  I actually forgot to put a plot in.  I had a brilliant running metaphor that would link everything up beautifully, I had several very poignant scenes, and I had plenty of jokes.  But I forgot to bring the plot.

Someone remind me of this incident when I start complaining about planning my writing.  And then we shall never speak of this again.

Drabbles should be coming shortly - I haven't had time to think about them lately, what with fences and several giant green spiny arguments in favour of arachnophobia.  Brr.  I used to think I was fine with spiders, but if you get huge ones where the body is bigger than the legs?  And when said spiders are firmly latched onto my jeans?  DO NOT WANT.

In random news, one of my cats seems to be having a bit of an allergy flare-up - his eyes are all puffy.  Poor kitty - but this happens pretty often, and given the amount of dusting I've been doing lately, it's not too surprising.

And it turns out I had it partly wrong - my brother got into the highest-level stream at college, including in freakin' Algrebra.  This is new.

...How the heck did I forget the plot?

ETA: I managed to cut my finger on a butter knife.  I think I should let someone else move the rosebushes tomorrow.

Also ETA: I completely forgot about the new series of Wire in the Blood.  This makes me really happy.  Well, y'know, not that I forgot, but that I remembered in time to have four new episodes to watch!  *dances*

Awesome find at Costco today: all nine seasons of the X-Files for $19.99 (CDN) each!  Ooh.  Didn't buy any, alas.  But it's there!

First wacky sleep-deprived dream of the week:

I'm in my hotel room, reading a book or something, and the doorbell rings.  Surprise!  It's Robert Sean Leonard.  Alas, it doesn't look like he's here to play doctor (*rimshot*), so it's not that sort of a dream.  No, he just stands there, crosses his arms, and says: "You know, you still haven't watched the third season of "House" yet.  That's very disappointing."  And what can I say but: "Oh.  Sorry about that."  And then he leaves.

So I bought the third season this afternoon.  W00t!

Second wacky sleep-deprived dream of the week:

I'm a secret agent of some sort, delivering a violent criminal/thief and his accomplice to somewhere-or-other on a train, for reasons that aren't adequately explained.  Since I'm apparently a really, really lousy secret agent, I tell a random guy on the bus to keep an eye on these violent criminals while I rush out to the washrooms, passing a random mumbling guy en route.  For some reason, while I'm there I run into a friend from school, who becomes quite engrossed in telling me about her job as a "fountain attendant", which I'm sure is fairly interesting, but this is the point where I realise that I left violent criminals on a bus with some guy.  And, since this thing seems to have taken a distinctly sci-fi turn, I run off, shouting: "The phrase "fate of the world" was created for exactly this sort of situation!"  Which is kind of a cool comeback, but makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.  Oh, well.   So I'm running up to the bus, nearly 100% sure that these people have escaped by now, and I almost crash into crazy mumbling guy.  And then I realize that he's repeating "Adrian" over and over again, which is the name of one of the criminals.  He notices I'm listening and points to the bus, saying: "Adrian!" again, then points towards a convenient copse of trees.  Of course, this is the point where the accomplice, on the other side of the bus, makes a run for it.  I run and tackle her, and notice that crazy guy has started after this Adrian guy, who's also made a run for it.  And then we catch the bad guys and there's a parade.  Or something.

Okay. This is something I've concocted primarily because I want confirmation that I'm not the only one with a folder full of half-finished fiction on my desktop that might never get written at this rate. So here you are! The Work-in-Progress Meme! When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y. Yes. I know I went "when on Earth did I write this" several times. And that's always fun. I really am convinced that somebody's been messing around with my computer and uploading their stuff, though, because I have zero recollection of a good portion of this. Especially the older stuff.

Whew. That was fun. I should go to bed now.
