That's fun. I really, truly couldn't have done all this without your continuous support - and while quality flags when I'm tired, overall I hope it's been worth reading for you guys. I hate not replying to each and every comment, but it's unfeasible at this point in time - but hey! If I get the job, I shall have three days a week off, which means much time for writing and replying to comments. Yes? Yes.

Comments: Well, it's gone about a billion times further than I ever expected - this makes three entire months I've been posting daily (if nothing else, that's quite a consistent access to the internet, isn't it?). And, unfortunately, I think this probably makes a very good place to stop.

You all know that I've been busy - well, it may be time to get my priorities in order. Taking time each night to write fanfic may not be the best use of it. It has been fun, and I have learned an enormous amount - not to mention having made about 80 new friends! - but yes. Will probably be taking a real hiatus from LJ soon: no posting, nothing.

So, uh. Thanks for all the support! Your comments have been wonderful, and I will still try to post fic every once in a while (if nothing else, to fill my ficathon requirements).

It's been wild.

Am getting a bit nervous about seeing the apartment and all, but I have dressed appropriately professional-casual instead of going for the baggy t-shirt and ripped-jeans thing and might actually be able to pass for a grown-up capable of making decisions and such. Ahem. Yes. I am planning on asking lots of silly questions, though, and not hesitating to call up my Mom in case of confusion. It's a lot of money! I need to be sure.

My friends tell me that some adults-only apartments say boo to students, too. Honestly, I'm not sure they'll believe me when I say I don't smoke, drink, party, watch TV or listen to music without headphones, and that my idea of a wild night in usually involves calculus. (Except for the part where it sounds too unlikely to be made up, probably.) If my assurances and landlords' word isn't enough, I can always fall back on the whole "Well, I'll ~~probably~~ have a full-time job with the government in May. That enough for you?" argument.

Note to self: don't get defensive.

Anyway, yes, time for another of these things again, because I forgot to post yesterday! (So considers up to the 24th inclusive.)

Comments: Technically, Lieder ohne Worte falls into week thirteen (and isn't counted above), but it was by far the hardest to write so I witter on about it here. Mostly, I just had the urge to write something unbearably flowery to get the purple prose out of my system (and if anything lends itself well to purple prose, it's Sapphire and Steel). So there you go. I need to listen to the audio with Ruby again (only trouble with devouring an entire canon over a long weekend is that it all tends to blur together) and see if they address the fact that her entire musical specialty thingie is based on time, which could get really interesting. And I need to listen to The Mystery of the Missing Hour again to quote bits at you. And and I need to write something with Silver and/or Gold. Yes.

(Am not neglecting Doctor Who! Am not! Watch me multitask.)

Still haven't decided whether or not to do Script Frenzy this year. Probably not, as it interferes with exam-time, which is made of woe in general.

Comments: Moral of the story: writing about Four and Romana is a good way to get lots of comments. Yes? Yes. Much as I prefer the Fourth Doctor playing it (sort of) straight, writing sheer silliness is much more fun - you can probably expect more of the same at some point. Romana's fun to write! (Slightly more epic action/adventure silliness may ensue.)

Now that I'm getting into a real routine for this project, I've started assigning myself time to write just before midnight. If I've only got half an hour, it's probably gonna be a drabble. One hour means one of the 500-1000 word shorts (or a part of Higher Education). One and a half hours means a Deepsky Atlas chapter (though it takes a bit longer now that there's some past continuity to worry about). Two hours or more means something new and longer and a bit more ambitious. I work on ficathon pieces and Wanderer Fantasy throughout the day, if I've got time.

Exceptions: "The Good, the Bad, and the Hovercrafts" popped out of a half-hour writing slot. I still don't know how that happened.

Leela is really, really hard to write - I wanted to give it a shot (my brain went fizzle and it seemed perfectly natural to put her in a bowling alley), but it's hard. I've been listening to lots of assorted interviews with Louise Jameson lately, and she's got some fantastic insights into Leela's character, but she's right - almost nobody wrote her character successfully on the show (the fact that she got a script originally written for Sarah Jane hurts my brain a bit) - I think she cited "The Face of Evil", "The Sunmakers", and, of course, "Talons" as her favourites in terms of characterisation. It's tricky, because Leela's so smart that it's hard to give her any of the naivety that's so integral to her character.

Blah blah blah wittercakes. I've nearly finished (well, about 30%, but it's planned) my Ian/Barbara ficathon piece and am a bit too pleased with it for my own good, and after that it'll be Big Bang liek woah. I'll get as much done as possible - we'll see what I can manage. Time management's on my side at the moment, as I've been wandering around with a toilet plunger and a whisk chanting: "DE-LE-GATE! DE-LE-GATE!" It works!

(Best way to recruit a volunteer treasurer: "Hey, do you like money?")

In my freshman year, there was a booksale going on, and, like any good bibilophile, I had to stop and buy something. I wound up snagging one of those literature anthologies people get assigned in their first year and generally bitch and moan about - I love them to death, because it gives me an excuse to read something I might not, otherwise.

This book, I have concluded, is magic.

Case in point: I wondered if I might be able to find a poem that would give one of my ficathon pieces a little structure. I flipped the book open - and the very first poem I lay eyes on splits neatly into five parts, each of which matches precisely the subject matter of each section of the fic. It's uncanny.

Randomly watched The Girl in the Fireplace with commentary by Steven Moffat and Noel Clarke, which was hilarious. These guys are great.

Highlights:
- Moffat has most of the production staff/writers buried in his backyard in an unmarked grave
- Doctor Who in an exciting adventure of copping a feel!
- The haircut jokes. And the sonic screwdriver having a haircutting setting.
- The Doctor's real name is Curtis.
- Killer skateboarders!
- The Madame de Pompadour fansite! ("I think they'll regard this as non-canonical.")

It is extremely silly, but also quite fun.

Comments: I don't know when it happened, exactly - and how much of it is entirely psychological - but writing in general feels infinitely better than it did. (But I'm using too many adverbs and my sentence structure is starting to get quite repetitive. Must improve!) Every day, it's a part of my routine - and yes, I'm having a wee bit of trouble juggling it on top of everything else, but then I always wind up having to prioritise. So far, my well of ideas hasn't run dry. Huzzah!

My current bizarre little desire is to have "Argumentum Ad Metam" finished in the six days it takes to post it: that's between two and three thousand words to write per day. Uh-oh.

(School, as always, takes precedence; for instance, if this PDE assignment isn't finished in time, it'll be a drabble or a one-shot or possibly another Deepsky chapter tonight instead.)

Cumulative Word Count for 2008: 33,723 (er - this basically exceeds my entire output for 2007)

Comments: A very, very satisfying week - one fic that just needed to get finished already, four brand-new standalone fics (two of which have received way more attention than expected), another Deepsky chapter, and just one drabble.

I noticed early on that writing standalone fics was very definitely my sore spot - they're great fun to write, typically wind up being quite popular, but they're also the trickiest, because I definitely need a solid idea, especially when writing on deadline (and most of these are written, due to my present schedule, in an hour or less). I like letting the story evolve until it's quite finished - so coming up with stories that can be told in one to two thousand words is a bit on the tricky side.

(Also, I have a terrible, terrible habit of overwriting shorter fics - the somewhat frustrating What the Thunder Said, most of which I wrote last December, is a great example of When Wordiness Attacks.)

I've been experimenting with a much sparser writing style, and, judging by the reaction to Comes the Rain and Sometimes Forever (both of which, coincidentally, I posted as quasi-meta after my first viewings of "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" and "The Chase"), something's working. It still feels a bit on the awkward side, but, y'know. Will practise, etc.

No matter how far behind I get on replying to comments/reviews, you know I love every one of 'em, right? Sucker for attention, that's me. :D

Favourite Story of the Week: The Deepsky Atlas - Chapter Two: Caelum {Fourth Doctor, Sarah, Harry}

Comments: Yep, lots of drabbles this week, but I expect that'll sort of be the norm. I've already noticed a huge difference in my writing - just doing it on a day-to-day basis makes it go that much faster when I do sit down at the keyboard. The only blocks I've had lately have been short-lived and entirely related to plot, rather than how best to express something. Woohoo! On top of these postings, I've got The Empty Planet and the latest chapter of The Wanderer Fantasy on the go, so I'm gonna say it was a pretty productive week. Huzzah! :D
