First off, Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] lizbee! Here in the past, it's still the twelfth for another eighteen minutes, anyway. ;) Hope your day was excellent!

Have been working today on my the first of my crazy Random Pairing Generator fics. And, as is so often the case, the sheer cracktasticness of the prompt means that the fic itself is dark and terribly serious and full of woe. Also, apocalypse. But it is Barbara/Liz! Surely we can forgive some worlds ending for that pairing.

Hey, new layout! It's probably quite temporary, since I'm already fed up with some of the broken bits of it (most notably its stretchiness and strange narrowness and such). I do like the header, though. Balloons! Clock faces! Little dashed lines and things!

Have rekindled my odd obsession with the board game Monopoly, because. Well. It is strangely amusing to have various characters from fandom playing this game. (Fraser keeps losing because he is too nice, I have decided. And Silver cheats. Also, Donna seems to get Park Place and Boardwalk through dice rolls alone every time.) This new habit is not at all strange, no.

In other news, I'm planning on starting up my coin collection again. Yay, coins! Shininess + history = major draw for me. I will need to rescue them from my parents' house, though, and maybe see if I can persuade my brother to part with his collection for a shiny quarter. Anyone else here indulge in numismatics?

And speaking of history, my Mom came across a brilliant old photo album that my Granddad kept during WWII. There are pictures of planes and things, since he was a pilot, but also some amazing aerial views of cities in India and palaces and such. It's really interesting - he never much talked about that part of his life, so I guess it's that old cliché where you feel you know someone better after they died, etc. But not in the Due South way, with the talkative ghosts following you around and building offices in your closet. Er. Yes. Point being that my Dad's going to digitize this collection of photos. They're really amazing.

Tomorrow? Groceries, further fandoming, exercising the knee, and lots and lots of cleaning. Possibly ice cream, too. And after cleaning comes picspam of the apartment, long overdue!

Five straight days of shifts, starting Saturday. Once more unto the etc.

You guys, I have finally figured out what my job actually entails, now that the severe storm season is officially upon us. I STORMCHASE FROM OUTER SPACE!

(Well, okay, so I don't use satellite all that much as compared to radar, but there is still the rabidly following every blip and calling a bunch of random people and occasionally the mayor by accident (whoops) and giving everyone the severe weather hotline number just before their cars get trashed by hail. Which is like stormchasing! From space!)

I am a bit goofy today - 55-hour work week, though, so overtime + more than 50% of my hours either after 5PM or on weekends = shiny paycheck, hopefully. I have a 77-hour week coming up in July. This is madness!

Speaking of madness! Since I have Monday - Thursday off this week, I thought I'd kick things off by cleaning my apartment from top to bottom. This is about as exciting as it sounds, unless I have some form of audio encouragement. What do you, the viewers at home think?

[Poll #1197238]

And a note - you guys should watch Due South, for it is made of awesome. Very Twin Peaks! Very Sherlock Holmes (Fraser lives at number 221, and occasionally tastes dirt and/or deducifies someone's occupation from crazy clues)! Very strange and mood swingy and excellent! Yes.

(Have not had a chance yet to see Who - will attempt to remedy this tomorrow night!)

EDIT: Re: the above poll, it might be more helpful if I mentioned what I have actually listened to before - not that I mind listening again! I've heard nearly all of the monthly Doctor Who audios (a couple gaps in Five's era), all of the UNIT audios, the first couple Gallifrey audios, and all of the S&S audios. There.

Because it is my day off, rambling!

1. First off, show of hands - who here gave up on House at some point? Eh? My hands are in the air, both of 'em, because while I stuck with the show until the end of season two (and I did watch season three eventually), I only had a couple moments of love for it after, oh, halfway through season one.

And this would be me, admitting that I was dead wrong to stop watching when I did.

Spoiler-free ramblings about House's season four, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Show Again. )

2. I've just started watching Due South, which is an adorable show that I have been meaning to see for a long time. I could mutter about Canadian stereotypes, but honestly? They've established that everyone north of the 49th finds him just as nutty. Hee.

(Also, heck, I've never been any further north in Canada than, uh, Peace River or possibly Grimshaw. I've never lived in a city with a population under 60,000 (and am currently living in North America's northernmost city with a metropolitan population of more than 1,000,000), so what do I know about the Yukon? Hee. Plus, cute premise, awesome characters, unexpected depths, and it's about how sometimes you really can believe the best in people and get away with it. I think I could really, really like this show. Although if nobody makes a "Dudley Do-Right" joke at some point, I will be sorely disappointed.)

Edit: Okay, joke's been made. I'm satisfied!

3. Now it's time for that meme where you post bits and pieces of your works-in-progress.

Here are some of the highlights I've been working on lately. )

Okay, that's enough of that. I'm giving too much away as it is! But yes. Fic!

4. And here's an offer I've been meaning to make, in the form of a meme, because I write lots of shortfic.

Have you ever read a fanfic that just begged to be expanded, to go beyond the hundred or thousand or ten thousand words into something more substantial? Have you ever come across an intriguing passage in a fanfic that made you want more elaboration, more detail? Well, now's your chance. Dig through my stories and let me know if there's a fic(let), an idea, a character you'd like to see expanded.

The more ideas, the better!
