What? What? What?
Nov. 27th, 2007 09:00 amI think the Doctor Who fandom is about to spontaneously combust re: that new spoiler.
Me? Cautiously optimistic? Maybe? I really don't know!
EDIT: Since I know a couple of people who're trying to remain unspoiled on this one - fair warning! Comments contain spoilers!

Date: 2007-11-27 04:47 pm (UTC)Oh, I'm a Rose fan, don't get me wrong (and having you pick her for me in that "Which character from fandom do I remind you of" meme totally made my day!). But I'm also a Martha fan and a Donna fan, and I think that any scene with all three of them in it (along with Ten, of course) will result in character assassination of one sort or another. Also, fandom's gonna be bashing all sorts of characters insufferably as a result.
But the idea of all these companions teaming up to Fight! Crime! does make me really happy. :D

Date: 2007-11-27 05:12 pm (UTC)Thus my belief that no good can come of this. None. Unless they manage to do something neat to resolve everything. Which I have no faith in them to do.
I've hated shipwars ever since my days in the OZ fandom.

Date: 2007-11-27 09:35 pm (UTC)But if you haven't seen the second series finale, this spoiler won't make much sense! I will white it out below, in case you change your mind about being spoiled:
Thus the madness. ;) It's been confirmed by the BBC, at least.

Date: 2007-11-28 01:09 am (UTC)Nah I knew she left. I have seen a couple 10 episodes but not many. Rose is okay but I'm more partial to Martha so far. I haven't seen Donna at all yet.
I don't get the wank! This has been on and off for what, 30-some years? You guys should be used to crazy stuff by now :D

Date: 2007-11-29 05:34 am (UTC)*grins* Yeah, theoretically, at least. Rose did a lot to turn fandom on its head, though - while it's definitely not the first time we've seen the Doctor get close to a companion (currently rewatching a lot of Three episodes, and he and Jo are so freakin' cute together), it's the first time such a large production has been made of it, and it's the first time the three-little-words thing has come up (well, arguably, anyway).
But I suspect Who fans will find the potential for wank in absolutely anything. ;)
Personally? I am a fan of all of 'em, for different reasons, and to varying degrees. Much like the various incarnations of the Doctor! So there. :D

(For me, Christmas and Sherlock Holmes are inextricably linked, due to receiving the Bert Coules audios for Christmas last year. Hence the "Unimpeachable Goose" thing. :D)

Date: 2007-11-27 10:24 pm (UTC)But, y'know, the more I think about it, the less ambivalent I feel. :) I don't believe that fandom is particularly srs business, and I think it could definitely be loads of fun!

Date: 2007-11-28 06:01 am (UTC)Now, I'm lightheaded. *grins* But I think fandom has spontaneously combusted. 's an educated guess. I've got into the habit of not looking, though. *winces*
Although the furor among my personalities is calming down to "cautiously optimistic", because series 4 is still a while away and there's school/IB to die over.
Sorry about the real-life ranting on my other comments. *sigh*

And no need to worry at all about real-life ranting - is good for you. I certainly don't mind - if you're ever feeling down, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do about writing you some Ten/Rose fluff? :)

Date: 2007-11-28 08:31 am (UTC)Happy Myranda-land in which one does not worry about who is going to be angry = friendly place.
I don't know how I feel about the whole thing. To say that it would have to be handled delicately would be a gross understatement, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility to turn out decently, dare I say well? And this isn't just in regards to what happens while Ten's got three companions to hang around with (which is huge, to say the least. Hell, I was worried about how Donna and Martha would interact, but throwing Rose into the mix (as is, alas, often the case in DW land) makes the whole situation a lot more complicated and a lot more likely to explode. *sigh*) - it's also what happens after. Will he ditch Martha and Donna and go traveling with Rose again? Will Rose go back to Pete's World? Will Martha leave again? How about Donna, what will she want?
Whatever happens is going to say a Great Deal about how the writers view these characters and, similarly, how I view the writers. *grin* Cause I get the be judgmental like that. *cheer*
Anywho... *gets popcorn* Bring it on, fandom. We've got a looong few months ahead of us and I'm ready to enjoy the chaos. *also gets jelly beans, cause when doesn't one need jelly beans*

Date: 2007-11-29 05:47 am (UTC)Also: *joins you in Happy Myranda-land* To coin a phrase... Hooray!
but it's not beyond the realm of possibility to turn out decently, dare I say well?
Well, I just get this picture in my head of all of them teaming up and working together and being friends and fighting crime and I just get all happy. :D It could work out very well.
it's also what happens after.
What I'd really like, more than anything (well, except for all the other stuff I'd like more), is to have real, genuine closure for the Doctor (so there will be a wee bit less of the angsting). And even more closure for Rose, because I think she's a bit too awesome to be pining after the Doctor forever.
Of course, I'll probably go back and watch S2 episodes now and totally change my mind. ;)
*also gets jelly beans, cause when doesn't one need jelly beans*
True dat. *steals your jelly beans*
