Technical support, anyone?

Bit of advice, please - how do people go about converting a billion MP3 tracks from an audiobook to a single M4A track on a Mac? I've tried about fifteen (seriously) different programs, all of which stop working at the critical stage, which is getting absolutely ridiculous. (The program Max, for instance, won't let me click the Setup Output Formats button. This is getting silly.)
And let's assume, for the sake of argument, that I can't use iTunes for this, because iTunes and I are Not Getting Along.
Thanks muchly - I got Hugh Laurie reading "Great Expectations" for Christmas and still haven't been able to listen to it, because iTunes won't let me import the .mp3 files.

I know how to import files from a disc into one big file in iTunes (I know you're not getting along with it but I offer that just in case it's ever useful) but haven't really played around with other audio programs. And I know with iTunes it's got to be done when you import from a disc--it doesn't have the option to merge files once they're already in file format.
If all else fails, have you tried posting your question at

Date: 2008-03-23 08:44 pm (UTC)Theoretically, you could try importing all the MP3 files into Windows Movie Maker, turn it into a movie, convert that to an MP3 file and convert that to an M4B file. Theoretically. No, hang on. Does Mac have Windows? Probably not.
I am made of fail. Seriously.
