Because a lot of the memes I created this summer are still making the rounds, I figured I'd chuck another one in for the sake of posterity!

Since the fandom is so freakin' huge, if any of these questions make no sense to you, just ignore them. :D Also, feel free to tack on questions of your own as you go!

My answers:

Series and Spinoffs
1. When did you start watching?
Late April of this year. I am a total and complete n00b. *hangs head in shame*

1a. Why?
Because it was exam week and [livejournal.com profile] imsanehonest told me to!

2. What was your first episode?
I was good and watched in order - "Rose". My first episode of Old School Who was "Robot"!

3. Which episodes have you seen?
Okay. Let's see...
-All of New!Who
-Bits and pieces of the Second Doctor's episodes ("The Highlanders", "The Mind Robber", "The War Games", among others)
-All of the Third Doctor's episodes
-All of the Fourth Doctor's episodes
-A random amount of Fifth Doctor's episodes ("Castrovalva" through... "The Visitation", and then I got distracted and started again with "Earthshock" through "Terminus", and then "The Caves of Androzani". I'm not even sure whether that's all of them.)
-A smattering of Sixth Doctor episodes ("The Twin Dilemma", "Vengeance on Varos", and the first two parts of the Trial)
-Another smattering of Seventh Doctor episodes ("Time and the Rani", "Dragonfire" through "The Happiness Patrol", and one or two more)
-The TVM

3a. Favourite?
Um. Big field! "The Christmas Invasion", "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances", "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood", "Blink", "The Mind of Evil", "Colony in Space", "The Mind Robber", "The Caves of Androzani". I don't know! Lots!

4. Are your friends/family interested in the show?
I've got a couple of friends who know it, but my family's not particularly interested (maybe I'll steer them in the right direction one of these days).

5. Which Doctor is your favourite?
I'm an Eccleston fangirl, it's true. :D But they're all just amazing - generally, whichever Doctor I'm watching at the time is my favourite. (I do claim to have a top three that stays fairly constant, though - Eccleston, McGann, and Pertwee.)

6. Which Doctor is your least favourite?
Don't have one! So there.

7. Which TV companion is your favourite?
Ooh... Jo Grant's right up there, and Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan (hush), and Ace (!!), and I'm one of those crazy people who likes Rose and Martha and Donna.

8. Which TV companion is your least favourite?
Hard-pressed to think of any. I guess I'll have to say Mel, but that's only because the (evil, restrictive) question limits it to "TV companions". She's excellent in the audios, IMHO.

9. Do you listen to the Big Finish audios?
I do indeed! How can you resist? The original cast, excellent writing, awesome ideas. They win.

9a. If so, which is your favourite?
Don't make me pick! "The One Doctor", "The Chimes of Midnight", "Seasons of Fear", "Doctor Who and the Pirates", "Scherzo", "Caerdroia". And that's just for the Eighth and Sixth Doctors!

9b. Also: which Big Finish companion is your favourite?
I definitely have a soft spot for Charley. And Lucie. Hex! Erimem! Evelyn! Frobisher (okay, so not quite a BF companion, but close enough)! C'rizz! Okay, so all of them.

10. Have you listened to any non-Big Finish audios?
Sure! A few novelisations/short stories, and some not-so-professional fanmade stuff.

10a. If so, which is your favourite?
Hm. It's been a while, but I will confess to enjoying the novelisations read by David Tennant. Way too much for my own good. I can't help it - he just gets so intense at all the exciting parts! :D

11. Have you read any of the novels or short stories?
Haven't had much luck finding short story collections, but I've read a bunch of the novelisations and original novels.

11a. Have you written any of the novels or short stories?
Hee!

11b. Which is your favourite?
Ooh. Again, don't make me pick. "The Year of Intelligent Tigers" and "The City of the Dead" are my absolute favourites!

12. Have you read any of the comics?
Kind of a random assortment. The Eighth Doctor DWM comics, as well as some Pertwee comics of unknown origin (TV Action, I think).

12a. You guessed it - which is your favourite?
I skimmed them all a while back - I'd have to read again to be sure! :D

13. Do you watch any of the spinoffs (e.g. Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures)?
Sort of. I've been meaning to catch up on SJA, and I made it through part of the first season of Torchwood and will probably go back at some point.

13a. Which is your favourite?
N/A - haven't seen enough to pick!

14. Is there any particular episode/book/audio/comic you desperately want to watch/listen to/read?
"The Turing Test" and "The Adventuress of Henrietta Street"! But really, absolutely anything I don't already have!

Fandom
1. Do you write fanfic for Doctor Who?
I do indeed, though with my updating schedule you'd never know it!

1a. If so, post a snippet of a work-in-progress (or several)!
(Most of this stuff is probably going to wind up deleted at some point, so it may as well find a home here.)
He stands sometimes on the front lines of a new alien incursion, or at the door to the laboratory, or on his front stoop, and feels as though he is perched at the edge of some dread precipice with infinity spiralling down below. He wants to jump, to feel the wind scream past him, to forget the ground and know only forever. He wants to fall. (from a pretentious little Brig-centred fic)
It’s a rather noisy night in London when the spaceship finally comes in for a landing: its wholly ineffective cloaking device flickers slowly into being, like an afterthought, then gives up the ghost and switches off again. It being a rather noisy night, nobody much notices the hunk of mangled machinery and little flashy lights that settles itself awkwardly into an alleyway, shifting the dimensions of the houses around it until it fits just so. (from a ficathon piece)
It’s cold and it’s empty, and this one’s more than a little afraid of death – but then, his name is vengeance, and lonely gods cannot die. Winds howl at the periphery of thought, screaming around and above and through him until he’s laughing along with them and falling so far and so fast that he loses sight of everything. (from the prologue to the infamous Big Bang fic)
"Up for five-dimensional Scrabble?"
"God, no."
(from Chapter four of the Wanderer Fantasy)

2. Do you create Doctor Who icons?
Nope!

2a. Let's see a sample!
N/A

3. Recommend a fanfic/icon/fanvid/fancomic/fancreation!
If you're on my f-list, chances are good that I've friended you because I love your writing, or your icons, or your meta. A random recommendation, then, which you've probably seen floating around [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho: The Ten Doctors. It's an awesome (and hilarious and in-jokey) webcomic. Go read it.

4. Have you been to any Doctor Who conventions?
Nope! If I ever hear of one hereabouts, though...

5. Have you ever dressed up as a Doctor Who character?
No. But I do have a mysteriously swishy coat and Chuck Taylors.

6. Do you own any Doctor Who merchandise?
Nope! Well, unless you count books and DVDs and such.

7. Are you a fan of Russell T Davies?
I'm willing to forgive quite a lot. ;) Yup, I am.

7a. Steven Moffat?
Yep!

7b. Paul Cornell?
Sure thing!

8. What say you to Season 6b?
Why not? It seems as good an explanation as any!

9. The UNIT dating controversy?
Annoying because it messes with my aspiration to watch Doctor Who in chronological order someday. Also, Benton and Yates? That's the real dating controversy. (That's right. I went there.)

10. The Blinovitch Limitation effect?
Cool! Also, kind of handy because it seems to mean whatever's convenient to the plot at the time.

11. Multi-Doctor episodes?
Fun, but a bit brain-breaky.

12. What's your favourite Doctor Who technobabble?
An old classic: "Reverse the polarity". I can't hear it anymore without giggling (which has actually landed me in trouble often enough that I've got a store of amusing stories to do with ammeters and such to explain it away).

13. Have you watched other TV shows exclusively because of the presence of Doctor Who actors?
Yup! "Blackpool" and "Life on Mars", among others!

14. Have you met any of the actors?
Nope!

14a. Travelled to any filming locations?
Nope! (Hey, guys! Come to Canada! We've got... like, snow and things.

15. What do you think of The Curse of Fatal Death?
I haven't seen it, but I think I'd enjoy it. What a terribly random question, me.

16. Do you have any fannish opinions that you think are fairly unpopular?
Eh. Being a fan of Six. And of the aforementioned Rose-and-Martha-and-Donna. Also, enjoying both classic and new Who.

17. What's your favourite pairing?
If it's well written, I will ship it.

18. What pairing(s) won't you touch with a really long pole?
If it's poorly written, I will cry. :(

That was certainly silly!

Happy happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] lookatmoiye7! It's not belated on this side of the world, yet, so I make no apologies. ;) Hope you had a spectacular day!

If I ever wind up taking a lab in which the expression "Reverse the polarity" is likely to be used, I think I shall be asking to borrow some of your amusing stories about ammeters.

(Although they won't help any if I use my Random Phrase of Randomness, which is "Reverse the polarity of the psychedelic ransom pants!" Really, that's disturbingly fun to say.)

(Yes, it's quite late.)
