For
where_no_woman's April 5th Drabblefest, which you should check out if you're into any and all of the Treks, because there are some awesome drabbles/ficlets up there already. Prompts are the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition - I used "Sometimes the only thing more dangerous than a question is an answer."
Because I like having all my words in the same place:
Title: Counting Stars
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Characters: Kira Nerys, Tora Ziyal
Warnings: None
Sometimes, when she speaks to Tora Ziyal, Nerys feels a chill.
There's no rage in her, no deception or frustration or pain. Stranger still, there's no cruelty. Nerys knows – she knows – that cruelty breeds cruelty breeds cruelty, that Ziyal is a circle with a missing link, a new ending, a new beginning. Sometimes that frightens her, and sometimes that amazes her, and sometimes, when she wishes for that calm certainty, that inner peace, the longing scares her more than anything else.
They stand above the Promenade, counting stars, and Nerys says, "Who are you?" and Ziyal says nothing at all.
