Requisite first post:

Everything's still under construction here, but I'm really looking forward to exploring this whole Dreamwidth thing - I'd love to meet some new people over here.

My profile covers all the basics, including the fact that I suspect I'll probably wind up using this account for posts that are primarily fannish, and, depending on how communities pop up, the content may differ considerably from my LJ account, which is why I haven't set up any cross-posting functions just yet. I like how manageable this all feels, though I suspect that'll change once I start diving back into fandom in a big way. I don't know about backing up my entire LJ, but I will eventually bring all my fanfic over here, and new fics will be crossposted for sure.

How about you? How are you planning on using your Dreamwidth account? Have you found any interesting communities out there so far? Has there been a friending meme yet? If I set one up, would people come?

Ello! (It's all big and quiet and echo-ey in here at the moment)

I'm planning on keeping this account mostly fannish also, I keep finding interesting sounding comms, with no content yet (See Dangerous & Heroic Women In Fiction). I've no idea if there's been a friending meme but there should be one (If you set one up I'd come play *bats eyelashes*). I need to stop over-using ellipses in comments...

There's so much potential for fun here it just seems to be a case of waiting for things to kick off in earnest.

Yus, once people start to settle down and finish importing entries/friendlists and tweaking the journal styles, there'll be a bit more participation to make it worthwhile.

I have no idea if/how I'll be using this thing, but it looks pretty snazzy- definitely worth a poke around. :D Maybe it'll get me, er, posting again. Haven't done that in a while.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you put up. The new coms should be fun too!

I keep thinking that I should create (insert community here), but then I fail to work up the motivation to do so. I think on one hand I'm afraid that Dreamwidth will just become LJ-clone and if I want to set up shop over here I don't want that. So I don't just wanna set up the same old comms and have my reading list over here the same as my flist on LJ.

Maybe I'll go set up something completely different.

I was hoping that there'd be a bit of an influx with the open beta, but it'll probably take some time.

I made [community profile] supernatural_women just now. Because damn it, maybe this time I'll be able to find a section of Supernatural fandom that doesn't make me hate the show.

It'll only end in tears.

I've been contemplating setting up a Big Finish comm, but my fear at the LJ-cloneness is there. But at the same time Big Finish is my corner of Doctor Who fandom. And then I think that maybe I want to use Dreamwidth for other fandoms since Doctor Who pretty much took over my LJ.

Bugger.

I don't know yet how I'm going to use it! I definitely look forward to finding out though- it's like getting a shiny new toy to play with. Might just crosspost at first until I see how things go, really.

You don't know me, but I've just subscribed to your journal because I recognize your name from Who fandom.

One thing I'm doing differently with Dreamwidth is also subscribing to journals of people I haven't friended on LJ, because the split of "access" and "friending" means I feel freer to do that here, where I don't have to grant access to my locked posts in order to show interest in people.

But I'm also crossposting everything, because I do want my two journals to be mirrors of each other. Dreamwidth is my backup for LJ, in anticipation of when LJ goes down forever. (I don't think that's happening soon, but I expect it to happen in the next few years)

Also, there are a couple of communities which have been set up specifically for facilitating friending:

I'm still finding my feet with Dreamwidth - I'm trying to read my flist over here first, then move to LJ, so I can skip the duplicated posts if I want, or dip into the comments there if they look like they're all having a good natter.

How are you going to manage trek_news across two sites? I'm wondering what to do for comicstore_news. I thought I might just make a feed for the LJ comm until there's more content here at Dreamwidth, but I'd like to include Dreamwidth if at all possible, without increasing the load on the editors, if there's a practical way to do it. Not all our editors are using Dreamwidth, though, so that makes it tricky.

Comm wise, I'm watching [site community profile] dw_community_promo, for interesting comms. [community profile] dreamchasers is an introduction site for people new to DW, I've made a few new friends there.

Personally, I'm just testing the waters at the moment. I have rather jumped on the bandwagon, but it's an interesting place and worth a look. I don't know whether or not I'd bother to maintain two journals, so if anything I'd probably just use it to keep track of everyone who's migrated. :)
