(The best part of wandering into a well-established fandom is gleefully discovering all the things that everyone else has seen a million times before and being obnoxiously enthusiastic about them.)

A snippet from the TOS book I've been reading:

"Here we are," Uhura said, and dropped another tape in the read slot, hit the control. For a second nothing seemed to be happening on the stage. Then a peculiar grinding, wheezing sound began to fill the air. On the platform there slowly faded into existence a tall blue rectangular structure with doors in it, and a flashing white light on top, and what appeared to be the English words "Police Public Call Box" blazoned on the front panel above the doors.

The book is My Enemy, My Ally by Diane Duane, and I am all asquee. What can I say?

Psst - It's your last chance to get yourself a Christmas card from me! I believe there are eighteen names on the list so far (I'll check 'em twice, don't worry), and I have several cards left that are looking for a good home!

(I did forget to mention something in my little wishlist section - fanart. I love fanart! Any and all fandoms, any and all characters.)

It's just a little cameo - but the Trek novels by Diane Duane are well worth reading, anyway. Makes a change from the eye-gougingly bad ones that seem to make up most of the rest of the line, anyway!

I LOVE THIS STUFF. *is capsy* A geekish character on Supernatural once had a magazine with Cybermen on, and I was all giddy.

Diane Duane also stuck a crossover moment with the Fifth Doctor in her own books. (From her official Wiki.)

And she's written for one of the recent Big Finish Short Trips books.

"Brother, have you ever taken a wrong turn," Jim thought.

That is my favorite Star Trek novel ever, and not just because of that bit. Enjoy it!

DUDE!

Also, I really started to like the Nightside series when the narration mentioned a "sonic screwdriver that some skinny toff in a suit had left in the pub." He also mentions the "Travelling Doctor" a couple of times, and his "blue box." Made of win.

There's vague references to UNIT in John M Ford's "How Much for Just the Planet?" - they're not specifically named as the Brig, etc. but are caricatures of them.

diane duane is made of win. and excellent writing. i have a doctor who fic that she wrote around here somewhere... it is fifth doctor and one of the gals, and it doubles as a tasty pizza recipe. THERE IS SENTIENT YEAST. argh, i can't find it! damn. i'm going to have to do a search. i originally found it because she sometimes hangs around fandom_wank (YES SHE'S GOT A JOURNALFEN ACCOUNT WTF) and it came up in a comment thread with her.

i need to catch up with yer posts! i have been away from teh internets and also from doing things. must get back to doing things, yes.

The Pizza Story is still to be found on the Web, preserved in the original text form yet:

strangely, i am about to go make pizza myself, but sadly not from that recipe, as i already had dough to hand. perhaps next time? oh dang, i should have checked the dealer's room at the chicago TARDIS con this past weekened to see if they had any sentient yeast available. fail!

Sorry, but I must first fall over hiccuping with laughter at your icon. :)

BTW: different book, another Doctor and possibly my favorite one until Tennant -- check here: the Man in the Bar (http://www.youngwizards.com/ErrantryWiki/index.php/Man_In_The_Bar%2C_the)

Alas, I can't take credit for that icon - all blame cookies should be passed on to [livejournal.com profile] queenpeladon (and the ST:VI Rifftrax for the quote!).

And yes! I was all excited when [livejournal.com profile] avendya linked me to that particular appearance of a certain mysterious stranger. There's nothing I love more than that "Waaait a minute" feeling of déjà-vu. ;)

I just have to say that I've been really enjoying My Enemy, My Ally; the Romulans have always been my favourites, and it's just spectacular to see them in such an interesting light. I've actually been pacing myself so I don't run out of book too early!

... I've read HW (admittedly, a while ago) and didn't get that reference. *facepalm* Nice one! I love when fandoms collide.
