Just as I was about to go to sleep - just as my head hit the pillow - I happened to glance up at my window, and right at that moment was the most dramatic shooting star I've ever seen (considering I've spent at least an hour each year watching the Quadrantid meteor shower since I was, oh, six years old, that's saying something).

I thought it must be an airplane, it was so low and bright, but it just streaked across the sky, all purple and red. I thought I must be going a little bonkers until I remembered what day it was!

It was absolutely amazing. Incredible. I've used up all my words tonight, so I'll just call it: fantastic. I've seen comets, and lunar eclipses, and several satellites and minor showers, but nothing compares to that. I'm easily amused by shiny things.

So that's what I get for staying up late on a post-fic high instead of watching the skies like I always do. :D

One day I'm going to pack some blankets and my binoculars and take a taxi out to the middle of nowhere to do some proper stargazing.

Edit: Uh. One night I'm going to etc.. Gone are the days when I could be coherent past 2AM. Fweeble. Bibbledee!
