Just as I was about to go to sleep - just as my head hit the pillow - I happened to glance up at my window, and right at that moment was the most dramatic shooting star I've ever seen (considering I've spent at least an hour each year watching the Quadrantid meteor shower since I was, oh, six years old, that's saying something).

I thought it must be an airplane, it was so low and bright, but it just streaked across the sky, all purple and red. I thought I must be going a little bonkers until I remembered what day it was!

It was absolutely amazing. Incredible. I've used up all my words tonight, so I'll just call it: fantastic. I've seen comets, and lunar eclipses, and several satellites and minor showers, but nothing compares to that. I'm easily amused by shiny things.

So that's what I get for staying up late on a post-fic high instead of watching the skies like I always do. :D

One day I'm going to pack some blankets and my binoculars and take a taxi out to the middle of nowhere to do some proper stargazing.

Edit: Uh. One night I'm going to etc.. Gone are the days when I could be coherent past 2AM. Fweeble. Bibbledee!

:D "The Giant Fwooshing Space Oddities" is a fantastic name for a rock group.

Who's that woman in your icon who looks intriguingly like Donna?

Aha! That'd be Sarah Jane Smith + supporting cast from "The Sarah Jane Adventures", which I watch because of its unexpected awesome. :D

But you've reminded me that I need a Donna icon! Icon hunting time again...

Would that be a space-rock group? XD

Hee! I guess it was the hair that reminded me of Donna. SJA scares me a bit because she was so unexpectedly lost and sad in that one Tenth Doctor episode (and I had envisioned so different a future for her back before she was reintroduced). Glad to hear about the unexpected awesome!

She is definitely on the sad-and-lost side at the start of the series, but she soon becomes a sort of surrogate Doctor, which is absolutely perfect for her. The darkness is still there, but she's definitely living her life! I really do recommend the series - despite the silliness inherent in almost any show aimed primarily at kids, it's got a satisfying depth to it.

I thought it was Jan 2 last night! Thus, I missed the max of the Quadrantids and a meteor shower is still on my to-see list.

One night I'm going to pack some blankets and my binoculars and take a taxi out to the middle of nowhere to do some proper stargazing.
You might find me and a bunch of people already there. xD

Oh no! Everyone seems to have forgotten about it this year. Poor Quadrantids. So neglected.

Plenty more showers to come, though!

You might find me and a bunch of people already there. xD

Hee, that'd be awesome! :D
