Le Big Ol' Update!

Well, it's been about, oh, forever since I updated. So I decided to do it right, with numbered lists and musical accompaniment and tapdancing elephants and whatnot. (Because, really, who doesn't include tap-dancing elephants in their livejournal posts nowadays?) Also, I've friended a few more people and this would probably be a good chance to let them know what they're getting into.
Okay. Where to start. Um.
I have way too much energy today! The obvious solution is to buy a bunch of candy on the way home. *nodnod*
Okay. Where to start. Um.
1. Cleaning my room. Yes, today's update is just that exciting. It's intense. Can you handle it? Okay. I had a random burst of cleanliness-related energy yesterday (it happens very rarely, but when it does, there's no power on this Earth that can stop me from whipping out the vacuum and alphabetizing my pencils based on the pet names I've given them). As a result, my room is now clean and organized, which is weird. I also organized my papers, which is a bit of a terrifying prospect (picture someone who writes everything down. Now picture that this someone is a pack rat and can't physically throw any little bit of paper away. Now picture that said someone has not organized said papers for the last two years.) There were easily five thousand pages of looseleaf strewn around my room (!!). It took me three Eighth Doctor audio adventure thingies (about six hours) to get through it all (of course, one was "Zagreus" and I found myself staring off into space and listening instead of organizing more than once). I got all my books and CDs on the shelves, and even managed to find a ring I thought I'd lost forever (eight months ago, to be precise). That made me insanely happy - this ring is a silly little beaded thing I got in Japan, but it's got sentimental value liek woah.
2. Doctor Who - "Utopia". Got to watch "Utopia" yesterday afternoon (gosh, I love time differences). I'd already been spoiled for the big reveal at the end of the episode, but somehow I still didn't see it coming. One occasion where my faulty memory came in handy! I was actually muttering "stopstopstop" at the computer screen from the second they found the watch, though. Weirded out my landlady when she came in to empty my garbage (why, exactly, she feels compelled to do this is beyond me). I thought the episode was pretty good (my expectations weren't terribly high after the incredible awesomeness of the last three eps) - but the plot was definitely flimsy and really just a buildup to the awesome reveal at the end. But, y'know, whatever. (On a more shallow note - and here I was worried that Tennant and Barrowman wouldn't have great chemistry. That scene with the doing whatever to the big metal things? Yeah. Total loss of brain function.)
3. Travel. I am going a little snakey lately (I think it could just be a byproduct of whatever weird factors combined to make me want to spend a beautiful summer's day picking through old computing notes and to-do lists). I haven't been out of the country in over two years - in fact, I haven't been out of the province in over two years. Considering I spent the last couple years of high school travelling to seven countries over three continents, it's been a bit of a painful adjustment to have to make. I've decided that the next place I visit when I win the lottery/finally get around to saving up enough money will be the south of France. I've never been, and I could take a train down from Paris, couldn't I? Oh. Trains. *whimpers* I need to get out more. Way out. Around this time three years ago, I was watching fireflies dance over an underwater temple in Japan. At least I'll get to travel across the States when we go to drop of my brother for college. That'll be neat! And it looks like we might be stopping in at the National Center for Atmospheric Research en route!
4. Doctor Who - Eighth Doctor. Okay, just about done listening to all the Big Finish Eighth Doctor audios that've currently been released. Um. Just a second. There's a drumroll going on outside. I just need to peek out and see if someone's getting, uh, executed or something. Uh. I think someone dragged their drum set out into the shared driveway. That's nice. I'll really appreciate it if he keeps practicing long into the night, don'tchaknow. Wait. Where was I?
4. Doctor Who - Eighth Doctor (take two). Right. So - just about done listening. I adore these. Some of them (I'm looking at you, "Zagreus") are so insanely surreal (The Doctor is Schrodinger's cat? The Brigadier is the TARDIS? Charley is an animatronic anthropomorphic mouse? Well, obviously.) but make so much sense at the same time. Charley is just an awesome Companion, and, despite the whole maybe!evil thing (or perhaps because of it), so is C'rizz ("I'm going to save you" takes on a whole new meaning). Because I'm listening to these before bed, I've been getting some really weird dreams, which has been tons of fun. And now I have the little Zagreus nursery rhyme thing running through my head, and it's creepy as anything. (And the Doctor's little "kill me"s? *shivers and hides behind the couch*) I accidentally listened to "Scherzo" before "Zagreus", so I was a wee bit confused over the Doctor's freak-outs - now it makes a lot more sense. I think the best thing about these audio adventures is that everyone involved generally seems to have had a lot of experience working with Doctor Who - so they know all the conventions and how to break them. It's immensely unpredictable and way too much fun. I might just start listening from the beginning once I'm done. Romana and Leela did a really good job in "Zagreus", too. Original actors FTW!
5. Violin. Going well! That's really all there is to report - I can play a sprightly (but simple) fiddle tune without sounding like I'm dragging an angry cat across a chalkboard in the process. My scales are quick and up to four-notes-to-a-bow, and I'm learning a new hand position so I can do the same with my C-Major scale.
6. Piano. Also going well! I'm digging into some late Beethoven sonatas, which is sort of weird considering that my taste in music is generally on the lighter side, but it's fun and challenging. I've got some six or seven songs to practice so that I can accompany my violin instructor at various shindigs over the year. Ravel + Sarasate = Huzzah!
7. Writing. Oh. Right. Drabbles. They'll be a'coming. Hopefully. I'm also gonna be working a little more on my epic!fic over the coming week. Prologue (both parts) should be all finished by next Sunday. *crosses fingers*
8. My weirdly short attention span. I'm going to stop now and run over to the university before the practice rooms close. That way, I can violin away and the neighbours won't flee the country!
