Author's Note: Little warmup for the Ian/Barbara ficathon piece!
The moment before the rain starts, they stand in breathless anticipation, watching the turbulent skies.
The lightning cuts a jagged line across the blackness, and the thunder follows so quickly that Ian jumps. Barbara laughs outright at that, and he grins; before the Doctor and the TARDIS, he'd never seen her relax so completely, give herself over to happiness for its own sake.
She's the one who jumps at the next clash of thunder, and, leaning in, she whispers in his ear that it's probably getting a bit dangerous.
"Probably," he says, and they laugh together. "But isn't it glorious?"
