"You're- you're not going out wearing that!" Ian gasped.
The Doctor turned and regarded him sternly. The little plastic bird, attached by a spring to his garish, floral mess of a hat, wobbled in Ian's general direction. "Hmm?" he said.
Barbara had to cover her mouth to hide her giggling. Gaping, Ian didn't feel he'd quite graduated from dumbfounded shock just yet. "But-"
"This is the height of fashion here, my boy," the Doctor said, opening the TARDIS doors. "It's you who will look quite ridiculous. Now, come on."
Still giggling, Barbara led the way out the doors. "Looks normal enough," she called.
"There aren't people marching around with silly hats, anyway," Ian guessed, and the Doctor sniffed, striding past him.
No sooner had he stepped over the threshold than a gunshot sounded, accompanied by a ricochet off the TARDIS doors. Yelling in surprise, they all stumbled back into the console room, and the Doctor slammed the door control amid further shots.
"Oh," he said.
Ian glanced up from the ground, still covering his head with his hands. "Oh?" he said.
"I suppose we must have landed on the neighbouring planet." The Doctor took off the monstrosity of a hat and stared at the bobbling bird. "Yes, that rather resembled Galaphras."
"Don't tell me," Barbara sighed. "They hunt those birds here."
The Doctor cleared his throat, harrumphed, and cleared his throat again. "Well," he said. "Generally, yes. I suppose you might say I very nearly made myself a fashion victim!"
