Ah, but that's all fixed now!  Away from the parents' house and its so-so internet for the next three weeks, and the cold has (mostly) turned tail and fled!

I very cleverly decided to turn this latest cold into an experiment to see if I could ward it off in 48 hours without resorting to my usual megadoses of Vitamin C (which works, no question, but is arguably not that good for me).  Turns out you can kill a cold readily enough by eating really big meals (preferably healthy stuff that's quick to cook - I like tofu for speed-cooking because it's not such a big deal if it's not cooked all the way through!), drinking ridiculous amounts of fluids (instead of cough lozenges, I just drank a glass of water every time my throat got sore), getting plenty of exercise, and sleeping eight hours a night.  Simple enough!

Okay, so it's never really that easy.  But it feels good to be doing something about it!  I will defeat you, evil cold!

Anyway.  What's new?  I just finished listening to the spectacular mindfuck that is "Scherzo", an Eighth Doctor audio adventure thingie.  It was like, after each episode, they sort of shrugged and decided that they may as well chuck on another bucket of weird for the next.  It was scary as anything, actually - and the scariest part wasn't just the lack of background music except for sudden deafening blasts, wasn't the quasi-sexual imagery, wasn't the disturbing premise of the whole thing (including the kind-of cannibalism thing, the 'oh-look-it's-chewing-on-our-throats-isn't-that-nice' creepiness, and the sort of Oedipus vibe that goes on during the whole "evolution" bit).  The scariest thing in the whole story is when the Doctor calls Charley a "stupid little girl" with such contempt in his voice and, on some level, really means it.  Gah.  Angry!Eight is really, really freaky, but angry-and-traumatized!Eight is scary as anything.  At the end of "Neverland", I never even suspected that they'd run with this other-universe thing (to be honest, at the end of "Neverland" I was busy staring agape at my headphones and seriously considering pulling an all-nighter to resolve the &*$^*&% cliffhanger).  This is really neat.

Okay, enough rambling.  I'm hooked, I'll admit it.

I've been planning on buying a new weapon for fencing, and I got a bit of encouragement last night when I snapped the very end of my sword's tip right off during a bout.  To understand my panic at that prospect, you've gotta consider that I've had the same sword for the last six years, and that I've baby-talked it every step of the way.  It's never so much as malfunctioned (which is pretty great, considering the average lifespan of a competitive weapon is typically measured in months rather than years), and even survived sitting in my closet for almost two years.  I've won medals with it, poked people's toes with it, and shown it off to family and friends at every possible opportunity.  Luckily, my fencing buddies weren't as easily freaked-out as me and fixed it up in a matter of minutes.  Phew.  Poor widdle sword!  Did oo think I'd abandoned oo?  No, nebah!

Um.  Yes.  All the same, it'd be nice to have a backup.  And a toolkit.  And a new violin bow, while I'm at it.  And a really big cookie!

Oh! Right!  I just remembered the whole point of this update!

After some considerable technical difficulties involving my iPod (we're talking five consecutive hours of trolling online forums for any bit of help with my multiplying predicaments), I wound up deleting my 1,000+ songs accidentally-on-purpose.  Spring cleaning!  So now I'm entirely without music.  100% music-free.  This is not a good thing to be.

My request, then, is for anyone and everyone to comment with any and all recommendations for music!  It can be a band name, a song title, an album title, a genre, or something else entirely!  Don't look back at my other music and try to figure out what sort of stuff I like - I love it all!  The ridiculous, the divine, the imitative, the tuneless, the melodious, the rhythmic, the stupid, the brilliant, and um, everything in between!  Throw out some ideas - I'm going nuts over here! :D

Right! Forgive me for taking so long with this!

First, I hope you get better! Sickness is highly frowned upon in many cultures. Specifically, mine. So, erm. Stop! *nodnod*

I've heard lovely things about the Eight audios. *adds listening to the ever-growing list of Things That Must Be Done*

FYI: I Actually downloaded three of the Eight audios and just haven't gotten around to listening to them yet. Why? Because I'm a bad person, obviously. *sigh*

Sorry about the sword being broken *pets sword* but I'm glad it's fixed! Now it has battle scars in addition to the blood of your enemies and character!

As for music... *eyes own music collection* Well, I've a very... odd taste in music. Lately it's been more of the acoustic type, and as such I recommend Damien Rice and The Weepies. If you'd like I could send a couple of songs (or CDs) your way!

Ah! More of your culture is revealed! *takes notes*

And it worked! I'm all over the cold. All gone! Yay!

Yes, you must listen to the Eight audios! Surrealness FTW!

Yay battle scars! *hugs sword* I kept the broken tip as a memento. *nodnod* Not at all weird, that.

Ooh, music! Anything to save me DELICIOUS LOBSTERING/going insane from lack of music would be fantabulous and greatly appreciated. *puppy-dog eyes*
