And the water rises.
Jo watches the swelling surge of the Amazon river; the rain has plastered her hair to her face, and without fear she crouches down next to the water's edge, blinking furiously in an attempt to clear her vision.
"Jo?"
"I'm coming, Cliff," she says, and steps away.
He extends his hand, and she takes it, gratefully. "What were you doing over there, then?" he says. His eyes are worried. "Could get dangerous in a hurry."
And in the rain and the roar of water, Jo thinks suddenly of hurricanes. "Looking for butterflies," she says.
