Doctor Who | Decay
Jan. 18th, 2008 11:29 pmTitle: Decay
Author:
eponymous_rose
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG
Characters: Ninth Doctor, Jack Harkness, Rose Tyler
Author's Note: I seem to be physically incapable of writing something cheerful for Nine.
They're silent, watching from the TARDIS as the smoke mushrooms up, billowing and spinning into ash, innumerable lives and possibilities snuffed out in cascades of flame.
Jack swallows, and the Doctor can barely hear him whisper a faint prayer, words out of place on a con man's lips. Rose steps forward, closer to the spectre of death. "Can't we go back?" she whispers. "Change it?"
"We can't," Jack says, and his voice is broken. "It doesn't work that way."
The Doctor touches the console, pauses, listens to the terrible stillness. "Shouldn't work this way, either," he says, and they disappear.

(and I seem to be challenged writing full angst for Nine. Somewhere between us, there is middle ground. *nods*)

Date: 2008-01-19 04:31 pm (UTC)Nine is quite the little angst bunny, but he could be so goofy and so sweet, too. It's just sometimes harder to capture that because it was always like quicksilver.

Date: 2008-01-28 06:49 am (UTC)Well done. Gripping; rending... the paradox of the Ninth in his darkest moments. Very well done.
