Going off to bed early with a good book in prep for my first exam tomorrow, but before that! Have some awesomeness that has popped up on my flist/radar lately:

Trek-wise:
Secret Agent is an awesome, awesome women-of-Trek vid by [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_llin. All the ladies! ♥ This one makes me want to go back and rewatch allll the series right from the start.

Families is a spectacular look at Kira Nerys and her many different kinds of family post-series, by [livejournal.com profile] sophia_gratia. The whole the-families-you-make vibe is one of my favourite things about DS9, and it comes across so very well here.

Babylon 5-wise:
[Probably NSFW]This super-pretty drawing of Delenn by [livejournal.com profile] rivendellrose! Minbari anatomy! So cool.

And a much older fic (the rec I found was from 2004) I came across quite by accident and have been re-reading ever since: Skuka, Holod i Granit by [livejournal.com profile] mazily. It's Marcus/Ivanova, which really isn't a pairing I'd generally seek out, but my goodness, it has the most perfectly written Ivanova I have ever encountered. The fic is equal parts bleak and darkly hilarious, which is fitting. The daydream sequence is pure gold.

Legend-wise:
Oh and also! [personal profile] curuchamion wrote me Mundane, which is a picture-perfect little Legend fic that all, uh, five of you who have ever watched the series should go check out. ♥

Written for [personal profile] curuchamion, who requested Legend fic about the weather, featuring Bartok. Hope you enjoy! That wraps up this round of the Ficlet Project, I think.

Having apparently jinxed the free internet thing last time, I've been without internet at home ever since - but now I'm up and running!

In honor of being all settled in and such, I think I might just borrow an awesome project that [livejournal.com profile] kindkit does every now and then (with awesome results - go see!): the ficlet project!

The idea is that I make a post like this one, and the first commenter gives me one fandom (no crossovers on this one), a character or two, and a brief prompt (but please, nothing too specific or detailed). I write a quick little ficlet based on that prompt, and then the first commenter on that one gets to post another prompt. And, of course, even if you're not interested in the previous fic, you're welcome to comment with just a prompt.

Everyone's welcome to play - you don't have to be on my flist or ever have read any of my stuff. If you come across one of these posts and there's no prompt on it yet, jump in! But to give everyone a chance to play, please just limit yourselves to one prompt per round.

My restrictions: I tend not to write above PG-13, and I do prefer gen, but that doesn't mean I won't write any and all pairings - the fic just won't be particularly explicit. Other than that, prompt away! If there's an issue with your prompt, I'll let you know.

I'm limiting this to fandoms I'm most familiar with at the moment, just because this should be quick. If a fandom's not included, it doesn't mean I've fallen out of love with it. It just means I need a rewatch. ;)

Fandoms in no particular order:
Star Trek (TNG, DS9, XI)
Doctor Who (only the newest series with Eleven and Amy, please - I'm planning a Classic Who rewatch soon)
Sherlock (the new BBC mini-series)
Quantum Leap
Stargate SG-1
Legend

And... there we go! First prompt in the comments will be written.

Theorem: The universe is awesome.

Proof: There exists a zany steampunk Western TV show in which Richard Dean Anderson dons a goofy moustache, John de Lancie dons a goofy accent, and they team up to fight crime.

Yes, really.

It is very silly, but also, somehow, one of the best things ever.

Only twelve episodes, alas, but they're all a ton of fun. The premise of the show is pretty awesome: Ernest Pratt (RDA) is a ne'er-do-well dime-novel writer whose gimmick is writing his best-selling steampunkish adventures in the first person. When his publicist convinces him to put his own face on the front of the books, it's pretty much inevitable that he starts getting mistaken for the clean-living protagonist of his novel, Nicodemus Legend, who saves the day using all manner of wacky machinery. After getting embroiled in a plot where his character has apparently been diverting the course of rivers, Pratt reluctantly joins forces with an extremely idealistic scientist named Bartok (John de Lancie), who provides the scientific know-how and is convinced that bringing the Legend character to life is good for more than just upping sales of Pratt's novels. Together, they have to travel 1870s Colorado and navigate fiendish plots, convoluted mysteries, writer's block, overzealous publicists, technical glitches, and the most daunting foe of all: Pratt's legion of fans.

Basically, it's fun, so I'm gonna picspam a little. It's not out on DVD or anything, but if you're interested in magically acquiring this show, drop me a PM (its quality, as you can tell from the caps, could charitably be called "moderate", but it's definitely watchable).

You're the one called Nicodemus Legend, aren't you?/When I need to be. Called something. Like that. They sometimes call me that. )

Also, I've been doing some quick searches, both Google-ish and on the Wayback Machine, and I've only been able to come up with a couple of awesome-looking fics by [livejournal.com profile] lothithil and a fairly average-looking fic series on a now-defunct Geocities site. There's no fanfiction.net category, and Yuletide's archive is down for the year, so there's no help there. Anyone know if there's a fandom hiding out somewhere? Wishful thinking on my part? Yeah, I kinda figured.

Edit: Okay, so I managed to forget to mention the name of the show - sadly, it is not titled "The One Where Q and MacGyver Fight Crime in the Old West", which is what I would have called it. It's called "Legend".
