Meme time!

Looks like the non-fic updates will generally be pretty sparse (fic updates will be more frequent once I've managed to get over this block with the infamous ficathon piece) - I'll probably lump all the interesting stuff in a "Week(end) in Review" post on Sundays. So memes and random comments on assorted things now, more significant stuff later! :D

Two memes, both of which [livejournal.com profile] rosa_acicularis tagged me on ages and ages ago.

First off, don't confuse this one with the Eight Things Meme, or the Six Things Meme. Obviously, this one's totally different. Because it has seven things. And also because I haven't done it before. Obviously. Yes.

The rules? Post seven habits/quirks/foibles all about you.

1. I know how to pick locks. The less said about this, the better.

2. The first time I ever went skiing, at fifteen, I ploughed into all the little kids waiting in line for the T-bar. That was, coincidentally, about the last time I ever went skiing.

3. It's painfully obvious when I do my laundry - at the start of the week, I've usually got a nice, spiffy turtleneck/corduroy ensemble going. By the end of the week, we're generally talking the faded t-shirt/battered denim jacket/torn jeans combo. Hey, I try!

4. I hope to someday become the crazy old lady who lives in a house full of cats.

5. I have a thing about handwriting. If I particularly like the way somebody writes, I can watch them do it for a creepily long time, or just stare at the finished product. And if, say, someone crosses their 't's in an interesting way, I'll generally steal that trait. I'm like the evil stalker/bandit of penmanship.

6. I hardly ever swear, mostly because when I'm angry I tend to be totally incoherent. "Grarghsha" is a favourite, as is "Hrrrrmuffit".

7. Distorted perspectives scare the heck out of me. All my worst nightmares tend to be centred around some ordinary shape ballooning up or shrinking down disproportionately.

And meme number two!

1. What country do you live in? Canada. Eh?

2. What new show are you going to watch? D'you have an hour? I'll probably get a proper start on Heroes, though, because my parents are so obsessed. And The Office, of course!

3. Last movie you watched? Recommended? A very strange B-movie with an extremely short lead actor who was running around and trying to prove he hadn't murdered his wife. The problem? He enlists the local kids (in a creepy way) to help him out. And there are caves and moments of weird touching. So, uh, no. Not so much recommended.

4. Last movie you watched in theatres? Recommended? I... honestly can't remember. I think it must've been the latest Harry Potter movie, so yes, I recommend it! I enjoyed it more than the others, actually. :D

5. If you could only watch 10 current tv shows, which ten? Gah. I'm gonna limit this to shows I've already watched, just to cut down on the list of potentials.

1. Doctor Who
2. Scrubs
3. House
4. Law and Order (original)
5. The Shield
6. The Wire (Is it still running? All these great HBO shows are dying off...)
7. Wire in the Blood
8. CSI (original)
9. Dexter
10. The Colbert Report

I'm sure I'm forgetting all my favouritest shows evar, but this'll suffice.

Did you ever read the Calvin and Hobbes strip when Calvin could suddenly see "all sides of an issue" and therefore was trapped in a world of horribly distorted perspectives?

It freaked the crap out of me when I was a kid. Seriously.

Oh, I remember that comic! Brr... I kept looking sideways at things and dreaming about trying to climb those wonky stairs.

It actually scared me more when I got older - as a little kid, I had trouble processing images (so instead of looking at the pictures to try and understand the words, I would read the words to try and figure out the pictures). Weird stuff - I could read, say, ten Archie comics in a row and not be able to tell you what colour his hair was unless it was explicitly mentioned at some point.

Needless to say, I generally preferred cleverly-written comics to lavishly-drawn ones (and since Calvin and Hobbes was the best of both worlds, I still adored it!).

Equally needless to say, it's been a blast to sit around with my "Complete Calvin and Hobbes" books now that the pictures make sense! :D

YOU ARE ME. (Except for the fencing. And being a brilliant meteorologist. And liking computers. But the social stuff and random weirdnesses... it's like reading my own blog from five years in the future. O_O)
