Goodness, the spammers are out in force on LJ. I usually get one or two spam comments per day, but now I'm up to 15 in the past 24 hours alone. If this keeps up, it'll be time to turn off anon commenting. At least LJ's auto-screening all of them.

My current way of dealing with spam comments is
1. all anon comments are screened
2. if it's a spam comment, delete it
3. if the post on which the comment appeared is more than a year old, disable comments on that post.

The reason I do #3 is because the spammers seem to attack old posts, and they seem to do it to the same post repeatedly, so disabling comments on a post that they've targeted does seem to cut down on the spam comments a bit.

Apparently spam comes in batches when a new bot discovers your account, and almost all of a given day's spam reports comes from a handful of users who have *all of the spam* for that day. Here's hoping they move onto someone else shortly!
