Seven years ago, I was living in Japan, and I still have friends there. All of them are okay and accounted for. LJ-wise, my flist has checked in as well, and that is just an incredible relief.

That said, not everyone's been that lucky. There are several ways to help out - there is another fandom auction in the form of help_japan/help_japan, and azuire has a great post with information and donation links.

In addition, though I don't know her myself beyond recognizing the username, a lot of my flist is friends with honorh, who was in one of the affected areas and is presently missing. wendymr has been posting updates here, and is encouraging folks to send the $2.99 "Help Japan" Livejournal v-gift to honorh's profile.

Over six hundred confirmed dead so far, and CNN has just started reporting that a meltdown is apparently underway at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Several people have tested positive for radiation poisoning in the area.

This is a very scary situation - if you can, please do try to help help out.

Thanks for the links and the info. I don't know honorh personally, but like you, I've seen her username around. This is all pretty scary.

Thank you for posting about wendymr's efforts and LJ's "Help Japan" v-gift campaign.

While I've never had much personal contact with honorh, she is a close online friend of selenak, so I've read many of her contributions to Selena's journal.
