Gah. It's been a very long time since I stayed out past two in the morning (and it occurs to me that I can't remember whether I've ever done it before), and my brain doesn't much appreciate the whole lack-of-sleep thing. The club was about as I'd imagined, which is to say that it was pretty dull and also vaguely reminiscent of a high school dance - only with friends who didn't ditch me. The evening included a sort of weird middle-aged guy who watched our group and eventually wound up dancing with my 20-year-old roommate - at which point I got all hovery and none-too-subtly overprotective, which I don't think either of them appreciated much. Heehee. I didn't drink, but I did frequently ask what people were having, and the interest wasn't totally feigned - if I'd worked at the bar and grill for longer than four months last summer, I would've tried to become a bartender. I find it really fascinating - sort of a wonky kind of chemistry, and you get the people-watching thrown in for free! Oh, and someone got a little too excited about nothing in particular and drenched my elbow in their drink, which made me really grateful that I'd left my favourite denim jacket in the car.
Anyway. Now I can say that I've done something ordinary and university-student-ish. Yay! Surely that's my quota for the next, say, fifteen years? I'm good with that.
I just finished reading "The Tomorrow Windows" (which is the... 41st Eighth Doctor novel I've read this summer. Yikes!), and found it extremely amusing and very clever. Very Douglas Adams, and it actually all came together very nicely in the end. It helps that I spread out the reading over a few days, so I kept forgetting vital plot points and then getting all excited when it came back to me. Good fun, and a very clever use of first-person narrative. Extremely clever. :D
Speaking of extremely clever (*rimshot*), I've managed to get about a thousand words written of the third chapter of WF, which is very much a yay moment, and implies that I should be able to get the next chapter out in a couple days at most! And then the ficathon piece should be done before I leave on the 18th. Much yay! :D
In fact, I think I'll get a good start on that. And then maybe go to bed ridiculously early.
