I was a little unclear on the why, since I spent so much time giggling, but I think they decide that, to avoid messing with history when Daniel talks to past!Catherine, he should pretend to be a foreigner with an interest in the Stargate project. With a very silly accent.

GLEE! That is one of my favorite Gate episodes, partly because I live next to Route 66 and I think the road itself is some sort of time warp. Most of the biker gangs take I-40 nowadays though... better maintained!
