The Giant Shiny Christmas Post!
Nov. 20th, 2008 05:39 pmIt's that time already! I adore this time of year. Partly because strangers stop thinking I'm crazy when I smile at them.
Christmas/Winter Holiday Cards
All right, guys! There are two boxes of cards on my desk that would love to go to a good home - I've only got exceptionally silly Christmas cards and exceptionally pretty Generic Holiday cards to choose from, so do let me know which you prefer! I love snail mail (
tigerkat24, you totally made my day yesterday!), so if you would just like a non-holiday-related letter, let me know as well.
I will send 'em internationally/overseas, so no worries there - I also don't mind if you don't send me one in return, obviously! I just love the idea of sending things to other parts of the world. :D Don't worry about how well we know each other - I've got lots of cards, and this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship, etc.
So: Comment with your address and your card or letter preference (comments are screened, natch), and you should find something awesome in the mail at some point in the foreseeable future! If you'd prefer an e-card, just comment with your e-mail address!
(Folks who'd rather not give me their addresses - don't worry! There will be a Big Super-Awesome Fun Online Project to look forward to, as long as I haven't jinxed myself already. *crosses fingers*)
The Christmas Wish List Meme
Step One:
Make an LJ post. It can be public or friends only, whatever you’re most comfortable with. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes, and these wishes can be anything - from simple and fandom-related (a fan fiction written about your favorite pairing), to medium (a DVD you want), to really extravagant (a brand new laptop or car). Just make sure these are wishes for things you really, truly want. If you’re wishing for things that must be mailed to you, like a DVD, make sure you include some sort of contact information in your post. This can be your mailing address or your email address, it doesn’t matter which. Just make sure Santa (or one of his elves) can somehow get in touch with you. :)
Also make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ. The main reason for the holiday wish lists is to spread the joy of giving.
Step Two:
Skim through your friends list and see who has posted their own wish lists. Then - and this is the most important part - if you find a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make sure that person’s wish come true. Sometimes a person’s trash is another person’s treasure. If you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you’re never going to use, give it to someone who wants it.
Step Three:
Post this wish list any time after November 1st. Then repost it two weeks before Christmas.
Remember: You don’t need to spend money on these wishes to make them come true. Only spend money if you want to. The point isn’t to put people out, or to throw yourself into further in financial debt. The point of this is to provide everyone a chance to be someone’s secret Santa, to show someone what the holiday season is all about. Gifts can be made anonymously or not. It’s all up to you.
1. Plotty genfic in any of my fandoms. That's it! I would be thrilled to bits. :D
2. Many of my Doctor Who fannish friends have put scarves on their wishlists. Who am I to argue with awesome scarves? I think I might teach myself to knit at some point in order to make one.
3. A grand piano. I can dream, can't I?
4. Any sort of offline correspondence - cards, letters, postcards. Did I mention I love snail mail?
5. Anything weather-related, because, dude. Weather.
6. LJ-related stuff - paid time, icons, etc. etc. I am probably going to wind up gifting myself with these things, anyway!
7. A burned disc with, you know, absolutely whatever you like. Favourite episodes of TV shows, fanvids, comics - whatever!
8. Music/audiobook/TV show/movie recommendations and/or picspams and/or quotespams! I love having piles of things to add to my to-watch/listen list, and I have found that I get squeeful over pic/quotespams even when I don't have a clue about the series in question.
9. Snow for Christmas? Seriously, we've had all of one day of snow thus far, and it melted overnight. If I've got to suffer through the cold, I'd rather it looked pretty at the very least!
10. A great December for everyone on the flist (and beyond!). :D
My address is in a locked post here, and my e-mail is in my profile. Hurrah!
Edit: Ah. There is an assortment of cards in each box! So it looks like the pickings will be a bit on the random side. ;)
