Spoilers for Series Four

Author's Note: One of a handful of drabbles written during the move. This is me getting my The Doctor's Daughter-ness out of my system. Spoilers ahoy!

"There was a war," he says.

He's said it, whispered it, shouted it enough times that he's nearly made it true; just a war, only a battle, the stuff of history and legend. The past in every gunshot and scream and smile since, and his hands are stilling now because there is a war, with words and ideas and knowing and believing, his timeline a ravaged no-man's-land.

And he lifts the gun; it fits too well in his hand. "I never would," he says, and says it again until he believes it.

That moment scared me - not because I thought he would shoot Cobb then - but because there have been times in the past when he would have shot him (and did shoot others)...

I was particularly reminded of Nine, wielding the gun in Dalek.

Oh, definitely. It's interesting to see just where the limits are.

I was particularly reminded of Nine, wielding the gun in Dalek.

Yes! That was the parallel, right there. I think I need to watch series one again. For science, you understand. Yes. For science.

Thanks for the comments! :)

Of course it's for science - what other reason would you have?! ;-)

Lovely, and very much what had to be going on in his head at that moment.
