Doctor Who | World Enough, and Time
Apr. 6th, 2008 11:26 pmTitle: World Enough, and Time
Author:
eponymous_rose
Word Count: 250
Rating: G
Characters: Eighth Doctor, Charley Pollard
Spoilers: Takes place before "Time of the Daleks", in any case.
Charley laughs, just loud enough for him to hear over the halfhearted threats of the guards, and he darts a glance back to catch her grinning despite the ropes binding her arms and the threatening daggers held by still more threatening men. Her eyes flicker to the fellow who's loudly besmirching any and all aspects of their lineage, and the Doctor follows her gaze to see the bit of toilet paper stuck to their aggressor's shoe.
Of course, the guard becomes rather more red in the face once they're both in hysterics, and back in the TARDIS after they've made their cunning escape, the Doctor makes a point of berating Charley for taunting angry men in charge of large groups of even angrier men.
"I learn from example," she says, nudging him with her shoulder.
He looks down at the console to hide his smile and, with a dramatic gesture as though encompassing the entire universe, he says, "Where next?"
She thinks about it for a moment, considering, weighing options as though leafing through a travel brochure, and he lets his hands hover over the console, ready to narrow the focus, to pinpoint the location-
Her eyes meet his, and though she smiles, her voice is serious. "Everywhere."
And he thinks of airships, then, of fire in her eyes, and moves around the console to fiddle with levers and buttons and switches. "Had we but world enough," he says, voice light.
Standing behind him, he hears her whisper the rest.

because pretty secret agents should really know better than to quote poetry within my earshot.)no subject

Date: 2008-04-07 05:27 pm (UTC)Gosh, I need to catch up on my BFAs.
Ah, but there is always the nice feeling that comes of having a whole bunch you haven't listened to yet, right?
(This is my rationale for not having kept up with the Eight/Lucie audios so far. More for later!)
