Stop it, brain! Stop it!

Wanderer Fantasy still exists, my friends! It does!
But I... I have accidentally started a new longer fic. Y HALO THAR UNEXPECTED EPIC THREE AND JO. Oh, fiddle.
The difference being, of course, that I have a definite end in sight for this fic - can't see it being over 20,000 words, and I've got the first 2,500-word chapter written already. It's a mystery/adventure-type, with Jo as the companion, and features UNIT and lots of strange goings-on. It's fun and dramatic (the plot spawned during an Avengers/X-Files marathon, which makes sense), takes place between Terror of the Autons and The Mind of Evil, and I think I should be able to finish it up well before Big Bang deadlines start coming into play. Right? Right. Yes.
(Reading Week doth approacheth. When I'm not teaching sixth-graders about the Coriolis effect and/or how to blow things up in a university lab, all I'll really have to do is write. Huzzah!)

And, y'know, if you ever ever ever want a beta for any of this awesomesauce, drop me a line! :D (Is not at all a ploy to get to read said awesome fics early, not at all.)
I've all but lost hope of finishing
I keep going: "Y'know, if I'd just #*($ing well held off on posting [insert story here], it would be the right length for Big Bang in no time!" Crossovers are hard and hurt my brain a bit, mostly because I'm petrified of screwing up Holmesian canon too badly. (Actually, it's Fitzian canon that's giving me the trouble, as I'm working mostly from Wikipedia articles.)
But I do have a (sort of) free week coming up soonish - I'm hoping I'll wind up writing it then!
(Well, if nothing else it'll probably be done by the, uh, final draft deadline? Maybe?)

But surely the spirit of DW is to have your own wicked way with the canon! :D Well, a little, anyway. But in any case I'm very glad to hear that this one's still in progress because I loved that prologue rather hard. In fact, while I'm at it, because I've accepted that I'm never going to comment on it properly, I'll go ahead and mention that what I liked about it most was that the Doctor's mind there has its own distinct shape, that the pattern of his thoughts and feelings are sensical but distinctive. That much-coveted understandable-character-but-really-could-be-an-alien quality.

Oh, I'm glad that came across. Normally I'm too scared to write from the Doctor's POV, but it was essential for shock value, etc. And a recently-regenerated Doctor at that! I'm really, really pleased it didn't just seem unnecessarily confusing.
But now that it looks like I'll have finished "Argumentum Ad Metam" within a week (and it's gonna be very close to 20,000 words exactly), I'm not nearly as worried about Big Bang. Excited, though!
