He's so totally different in the later episodes (the transition must occur sometime with Leela and is most obvious by series seventeen - for equally obvious reasons). It's sort of neat to consider that whole thing - I'm a sucker for a Doctor that gets a well-established character arc.

Merrison and Williams are definitely my Holmes and Watson - though Andrew Sachs does a good job as well in the Further Adventures series. And, yep - as far as I know, they're the only ones to have completed canon together. Getting access to that box set was what put me back on track for a full-fledged Sherlock Holmes obsession!
