I was reading the novelisation of "The Daleks" today, which was an extremely confusing experience at first because it completely ignores the events of "An Unearthly Child" and sort of borrows from the Cushing movie? Initially, I was all: "Weird time distortion, maybe? I don't remember that from the serial!" Because wouldn't that just make an awesome fic - Barbara, Susan and the Doctor lose track of Ian in some sort of time eddy (insert-SKIENCE-here) and he's lost his memory and thinks he's just a normal guy and quite by chance they run into him (not quite literally) after a car crash and he winds up in the TARDIS and everyone's just trying to act normal. Bonus points for potential Barbara/Ian angst! (Mind you, in the novelisation he's all concussed and very, very confused but still manages to get around to asking her out for a drink. *beams* They are the closest thing Doctor Who has to a universal OTP!)

Like I needed another fanfic on the plate. :D

Anyway, that reminded me of how much I love the (somewhat bizarre) premise of that very first Doctor Who episode. It goes a bit like this:

BARBARA: Ian? You know that strange girl in our class, with the antisocial grandfather?
IAN: Oh, you mean the one who freaks out over having to work in only three dimensions and knows suspiciously a lot about everything ever?
BARBARA: The address she gave to the school leads to a junkyard.
IAN: That's sort of weird.
BARBARA: I think we should follow her home tonight, in secret!
IAN: But couldn't we just-
BARBARA: IN SECRET!
IAN: Oh. Um. Okay.
BARBARA: If you weren't doing anything, that is.
IAN: Nah, I'm free.
BARBARA: Cool.

And they do, at which point the Doctor very kindly kidnaps them. Still cracktastic back in 1963? But of course!
