Madeline L'Engle has died.

I remember a ten-hour drive to my Gran and Grandad's place when I was six - I was bored and complaining and my Dad tossed me back "A Wrinkle in Time" to occupy me. By the time we arrived, I'd finished the book and was in love. I saw, for the first time, how possible it was for someone normal to accomplish something extraordinary - and that's when I first started working on my math and science over the summer to keep up with the rest, instead of just letting it drop.

I've read the book several times since then and lent my various copies to numerous friends, all of whom have adored it. It was probably the single most defining book of my childhood. She will be sorely missed!
