They trail along behind her mum, making their way home, following an unmarked road. "Does this mean you can't travel, then?" she asks.
He has his hands in his pockets, now, and he's squinting up at the sky. "Travel? 'Course I can travel."
"I mean-" She shrugs. "You know. Haven't got a TARDIS, right? Makes it a bit trickier."
"Ah," he says, and shrugs. "Well, big old universe and all, but I saw quite a lot of it, didn't I?" And then he glances over, meets her eyes for the first time since the beach, and grins. "Didn't we?"
"Yeah," she says, and finds herself smiling. "Tell you what-" She takes his hand in hers, and the hesitation is eerie, familiar, the ghost of Christmas past. "I'll show you around this world, this universe."
"Yeah?" he says. "I think I'd like that."
"Zeppelins in London, you know," she says, and laughs, because it's absurd again, it's strange and new and wonderful. "All over the place, great big zeppelins."
He winks, and it's not quite the way it was before, not quite what she'd mourned, and it's somehow more right than anything. "You take me to the strangest places."
"Just returning a favour," she says, and then her mum is waving to them, calling for them to stop dawdling, and it's the most natural thing in the world to squeeze his hand, to lean in close, to laugh at his puzzled expression.
"Run," she says.
