Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] azdak, though I have done it before, because yay!

Reply to this post and I will:

a) tell you why I friended you,
b) associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc.,
c) tell you something I like about you,
d) tell you a memory I have of you,
e) ask something I've always wanted to know about you,
f) tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

Even if you've answered it before, I shall endeavour to have new and exciting insights. Also, not limited to folks on my flist, because I know there are lurkers about - if I've seen you around fandom, I will endeavour to answer this for you as well. :D

As a bonus, post a bunch of your favourite TV shows in the comments. Looking for recommendations!

Hello !!

Fave TV shows (though none as fave as Doctor Who !) - starting with the oldest fave first:

Sapphire and Steel
Star Trek: TNG, DS9 and Voyager (not the first/oldest show and not the most recent one either)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season 5 rocks !)
Firefly
The Sarah Jane Adventures

- not many 'cos I'm really not much of a TV watcher these days...

(Man, do I ever need to watch The Prisoner at some point. Also Spaced and Black Books, because I love all the other shows you've mentioned and so going with the rest seems like a Very Good Plan. Thanks for the recs!)

a) I friended you because of [livejournal.com profile] greenbubblewrap's awesomeness and, well, seeing you around fandom! Also, MST3K love. What else can I say? (Also, as above, I keep coming across fandoms and things that we have in common, which is always fun.)

b) Strongest association is very probably with that MST3K mood theme. It is made of shininess and all things good.

c) You post really interesting stuff, you run an awesome recs page, and have excellent insights on Whoish stuff!

d) This question always makes me sporfle a bit, because I picture wavy flashback lines and possibly frolicking through fields of something or other. But anyway! How about that time when you requested Sapphire and Steel fic of the creepy variety? I should really get on that.

e) Hm. If you could change one plot point in Classic Who, what would it be?

f) Lots of favourites! I do have a special fondness for Image, though, because I'm on a bit of a J&W kick lately.

Favorite non-Doctor-Who TV: Mystery Science Theater 3000, early-season CSI franchise, Law and Order franchise, Monk, Psych, The Closer, Burn Notice, Mythbusters, House, The Muppet Show, and some other stuff that I know I've forgotten.

I would like to take this opportunity not only to ruthlessly meme myself (*evil cackling ensues*), but also to apologize for not commenting properly to your posts of power, especially since so much is happening in the exciting life of Kagen! More commenting shall henceforth commence, and my inane jabber shall once motr be filling up your inbox. *more evil cackles*

That out of the way, you really must watch "Battlestar Galactica." MUST. It's simply too good. Basis: The Cylons are AI machines made by the humans of the Colonies, 12 settlements of humanity that comprise the human race. 40 years ago, the Cylons rebelled. After a bloody war, an armistice was reached and no one's seen the Cylons for decades. But, the robots have been busy and they've evolved, new models existing that look, feel and act just like humans. So everyone is taken by surprise when the Cylons attack, destroying humanity, save for 50,000 people. Their former homes inhabitable, the human race is left on the run, constantly defending themselves from an enemy that may know them better than they know themselves with no where to run to... Except for maybe Earth, the lost 13th Colony... *insert suspensful music here*

Politics, religion, dorky sci-finess. What more could you want out of a show? And all of it managed with just really excellent writing. Brutal too. (Sort of a given, since the show starts off with the near genocide of humanity...) Not to mention consistently surprising and skillful... *happiness* Erm. Point being, watch! (In case you can't tell from the overly long-ness, I'm *really* enthusiastic about this show!)

Also, "How I Met Your Mother." It's terrifying to think about how close this show came to being canceled due to lack of viewers when it's so very hilarious. Plus smart, which is sometimes hard to find in a sitcom. Basis is thus: Future!Ted from the year 2030 is telling his kids about how he met their mother when he was in his late twenties and living in New York. Joining Ted is his best friend Marshal (a lawyer in training who sings the things he has to do and enjoys brunch - a lot) and his wife-to-be Lily (a kindergarten teacher/artist who is right about everything and has a serious shopping addiction), Barney (you really just have to watch to understand the awesome of the womanizing, Bob Barker-loving, suit-wearing, evil genius of Barney), and Robin (the scotch drinking, gun toting Canadian and would-be anchor-woman). It's too good! Plus Alyson Hannigan. And who dosen't love Alyson Hannigan??

Thus ends my long overdue, incredibly lengthy, Comment o' Death. Ta-da!

(Hm, I was only ever really a fan of the first two Star Trek series - DS9 and Voyager just didn't ever click for me. Maybe I should give them another shot? And yeah, season 5 of Buffy was far better than I expected after the mess that (IMHO) was season 4! I should watch that show again. Thanks for the recs! :D)

a) I believe it was yet another friending meme. ;) Ooh, right! Before the meme, we were talking about Three's serials, I think. That's always fun. :D

b) Pretty pictures of Freema Agyeman! Hee.

c) I greatly admire your ability to keep up with your flist, for one. ;) I seem to be having trouble with that lately. Thus the bonding memeage!

d) Totally random memory - you teasing me for not clueing into the fact that David McCallum was in both MUNCLE and Sapphire and Steel. What? I'm fast on the uptake! :D

e) Hmmmm... what's your favourite gen-flavoured relationship on Doctor Who?

f) Lots to choose from! I do like Image an awful lot, though!

(Ooh, you've reminded me that I haven't seen much Monk. I've also never seen Psych, The Closer or Burn Notice. Thanks for the recs! :D)

a) I believe I friended you because sheer awesomeness compelled me to do so. Seriously, it was like a physical force or something.

b) I associate you with the awesome that is Richard Belzer. Can't imagine why that is. ;)

c) Oh, man. I think you write some of the best, most thoughtful, most insightful meta in the entire Who fandom and you are super-talented to boot.

d) Discussing the Master and Jo and Three and such. Good times! :D

e) I am going to ask the cliché TARDIS question: If you had a TARDIS, where would you go? What would you do?

f) Image. Not that it's at all true or anything. *shifty eyes*

I don't like all of DS9 and Voyager, but there are some good stories/arcs in them (especially DS9) - and I just liked the fact that we finally had a female starship captain in Voyager !

And you're welcome for the recs...

a) I talked about Three serials? I must have been lamenting my ignorance of them, then ! Although I'm slowly starting to catch up!

b) My batshit love for Freema, let me show you it ! :P

c) Practically living online helps a good deal in that respect (though now I'm actually doing a second job outside the house, I'm not always going to be so fast to respond. But hey, getting out of the house is healthy ! :D (I'm so corrupted, I read "bonding meme" as "Bondage" - I blame LJ for this entirely !)

d) I'm a rotten tease ! :P

e) Favourite gen-flavoured relationship on DW? Since I don't actively ship them, Sarah Jane and Harry...

f) I'm rather fond of that one too ! And yes, lots to choose from, and yet I've never got enough icon spaces ! o_O

Yay you used my icon! I think it's one of the prettiest icons I've made in a very long time ♥

*raises hand*

Favourite TV shows? Hem. The list is going to be Long. And it's going ot take some time to think of all of them:

DOCTOR WHO, obviously.
Also? Doctor Who
Oh, and I forgot Doctor -- er. Sorry.
The Sarah Jane Adventures! IS IT CAN BE SEASON 2 TIEM NAO? (Honestly, it's lovely! *must write "OMG-Andrea-Yates-is-everyone's-favourite-captain's (unless your favourite captain is Jack, but he's not a real captain anyway) sister/cousin/whatever".)
Torchwood, but only the good episodes.
Firefly!
Buffy!
The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Sapphire & Steel (from what I've seen)
A rather obscure (and rather rubbish, to be honest) French series called Avocats et Associés, about the everyday life of a lawyers' office. It's completely stupid and rather unlikely, but much, much fun to watch and terribly addictive.
Hornblower (it has teh pretty! And teh awesome characters!)
Veronica Mars (I have a giant crush on both Veronica and Wallace)
A Bit of Fry and Laurie (God, I haven't watched those in AGES)
Black Books!
Furturama (It's a TV show, shut up)
Gankutsuou (Okay, it's an anime, not really a TV show, but it's of the most amazing adaptation of The Count of Monte-Cristo. Although, as usual, they dumped my favourite thing in the book, that is the Count/Haydée shippiness *sigh* It's pretty, though!)

Annd a lot of others.

Telly I love: Doctor Who and SJA, of course. Buffy, Angel, Firefly! Blake's 7 is fantastic, the effects (and, if I'm honest, some of the acting) have not dated terribly well but the plots and the dialogue are so good. Black Books is silly and inventive and incredibly quotable fun. Dead Like Me, black comedy with a warm heart. Spooooooks, slick production and some great actors, still feels fresh after six seasons. I've just watched a few episodes of Adam Adamant Lives! and it is all kinds of fun. Loving what I've seen of The Sarah Connor Chronicles so far. Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes! And Hex, bit of a guilty pleasure but trashy, glossy, preposterous fun. ♥

(Don't be frightened; I'm calling everyone chickadee today. It's a new policy of mine.)

Some random shows are: Northern Exposure, 30 Rock, SPORTS NIGHT, Kids in the Hall, and Fraggle Rock.

Quality, dude. Quality TV.

(Monk is one of the only shows I've got that hasn't sharply declined in quality as it progressed to its later season - Season 5 is just as amazing as Season 1. It's refreshing. And out of all the shows I mentioned, I'd probably recommend The Closer first out of all of them. Psych is peculiar and fun, and Burn Notice is a weekly action movie with more sarcasm, but The Closer handles drama and humor just as deftly within a single episode, almost every week. < /ramble>)

b) It shall forever be a mystery, woes.

c) You really think so? Wow, considering that I tend to just write whatever comes to mind after watching an episode more times than is strictly necessary, that's so nice to hear! I haven't meta'ed at length in quite a while, actually; perhaps I should get back into the habit.

e)I would...probably go back to the Vatican in 1508 and watch Michelangelo paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Or to the late 1950s-early 1960s in America, so I could talk to Donald Judd and Dan Flavin and the Minimalist artists. Ooh! Or to the 1980s, and the early Burning Man festivals, before all the restrictions were put in place. Or to Barcelona in the future, when the Sagrada Familia cathedral was completed...

You get the idea. I'd do the Famous Historical/Artistic Events tour, because when you get right down to it I don't have that much of an imagination. < /more rambling>

f) While I'm sure I've done that at least once, I can usually manage to return to writing after 100 or so Solitaire games. Or sometimes I just take a break and play FreeCell instead. :D

I won't go into details, because I believe it's been beautifully done above, but I will say YOU MUST WATCH. OR at least just give the miniseries a try. Then you'll know whether you'll like the rest of the series' or not.

a) I believe I friended you at a friending meme sort of thing, because yay House and X-Files and all! Also, I think [livejournal.com profile] inlaterdays was used as an awesomnometer of some sort. ;)

b) The phrase "wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey". YES I ASSOCIATE YOU WITH THIS. That's pretty awesome.

c) I love the detailed and clever entries you write, about a specific fandom or fandom in general or just ordinary things. Always interesting stuff. :D

d) Voice posting! I think it was your lovely post that got me interested in it in the first place. Really fun!

e) If any one of your fandoms (the cancelled ones, obvs) could have continued, which would you have chosen?

Ooh, The Tomorrow People! I have been contemplating that one for the Big Finish connection. Thanks for all the awesome recs! :D

(I'd never heard of Black Books before now, and everyone's on about it! Should give it a look.)

a) Friending meme! Love for the audios and Liz fannishness and such. How could I not friend?

b) Your smiley! I love the :o). Very much.

c) Sapphire and Steel! Hurrah, you encouraged me to join the fandom, and I am very glad that I did. You're extremely nice and very enthusiastic about your fandoms, and hooray! It's a contagious enthusiasm. :D

d) You telling me not to hate the kids in the first Assignment of S&S was probably what saved me from turning it off after the first couple minutes, quite honestly. ;) That's a silly memory, though. How about... well, hopefully I shall be on Skype again soon! We can create all new memories. Yes.

e) You get to cross S&S with one other show. What would it be?

a) Actually, I really, really wanted to friend you because of all your awesome insights into the audios. Audio fandom! Always a good basis for a friending.

b) The S&S opening, because of that icon! Awesome.

c) You always have interesting and thoughtful insights about the Big Finish audios and I don't reply nearly enough. Shall attempt to remedy that!

d) Discussing "Absolution" and meandering off into other Big Finish-related territory. I love it when a fannish discussion expands like that!

e) I've asked this question above, but I think it's particularly relevant - if you could pick one of your shows to not be cancelled, which would it be?

f) You have so many good ones! I am going to go a bit random and pick Image, because yay Amelia! (My old fandoms, I show you them.)

b) OMQ! Yes. Best exclamation ever!

c) You're super-nice and super-clever and super-interesting. Also, an extremely good writer. :D

a) I believe it was that Classic Who friending meme and lots of favourites in common! I'd also seen you around [livejournal.com profile] satellite_five, too, and anyone involved with [livejournal.com profile] soniclipstick is automatically awesome!

b) Actually, I associate you with [livejournal.com profile] soniclipstick. Interesting!

c) Two words: companion love. So much companion love! It's always a good thing. :D

d) Your excellent advice for apartment-hunting was part of why I decided against the first place I looked at - the landlord was rushing me through it way too much. So thank you very much for that! ;)

You're welcome! I just wrote down what sprang to my mind, actually XD

b) I'm very proud of this invention, yes.

c) *is both very flattered and very flustered* (speaking of writing, I don't know what's right with me today, but I listened to Terror Firma again and I actually produced a 500 words post-audio Samson and Gemma fic. (Because Gemma Griffin lives!) I'm really pleased with how much I've been writing lately.

e) Ah. That's actually quite embarassing. Please note I was 13. My first fandom was Fruits Basket. (At least I had the decency to already be shi^ing everyone/everyone) The first fanfiction I ever read was a NC-17. A very poorly written NC-17. I loved it.
You know these New Who (I almost wrote "New Sho". Hehe) batshit fangirls who post way to much flamebait? I was like that once. Well, I was less horrible than some of them, but still. I even wrote a Mary-Sue. Fortunately this is far, far behind me.

a) Mutual fangirling, if I recall correctly. Your But Broken Lights = one of the best fanfics evar. I would have squeed if you'd given me the time of day. ;)

b) Easy - that loverly rose icon. Very nice!

c) Your writing is just incredible. Like, really. To the point where I can't think of your other good points because it eclipses all else. And it is consistently awesome. Sometimes when I'm having trouble writing, I just browse your stuff for inspiration. And then wind up losing all my writing time because I need to read everything all over again. BUT THAT'S OKAY. Yes.

d) The billions of utterly insane late-night AIM conversations! And our systematic destruction of the universe as we know it/the English language. Not that either one particularly needs our help.

e) Which two characters (from any fandoms, from the same fandoms, real-life people, etc.) would you most like to see meet in a fic?

d) How about that time when I totally guessed you were my remixer? ;) (Okay, so that was mostly because I had my suspicions and then you had to disappear from the intarwebs at about the same time the reveals should've gone up. COINCIDENCE? I thought not!)

c) Yay, Gemma!fic! I'm working on a Samson/Peri fic thanks to the Random Pairing Generator. So there you go!

e) Hey, my first fandom was Pokemon! ;) I was... about ten. But yeah, Fruits Basket! I remember that show. I had all the Japanese manga at some point...

And goodness, I can't even tell you how many Mary Sues I wrote. At least I figured it out after a while, though it didn't stop me from writing them. *winces*

c) Honestly, I love Samson and Gemma to a point that is highly unreasonable. Squee! (also, how much do I love their family name? (and their names in general) VERY MUCH. Seriously, their name is pretty!
And Samson/Peri is going to be awesomesauce. Can't wait to read it!

e) Well, it depends on your definition of "fandom". My first real proper fandom in which I fangirled about pairings with other people on the internet is definitely Fruits Basket. If you just mean "the first thing that turned you into a squeeing fangirl", I'll have to say sirius Black Harry Potter. (Honestly, Sirius Black was my very first fictional crush, I was Just That Fangirly about him. I must have been nine or ten at the time.)

I only wrote one Mary-Sue (and didn't even finish it, but that was because I was too lazy) but I did write bad!fic until a rather recent point, actually. (You know, the ones in which there are tons and tons of emo and angst and stuff. I used to be a Kaori Yuki fan)

Quote memes! Funtiems. You're super nice. Thank you for saying that!

My mind has been stuck on Amber, lately, too. I'd love to read HAPPY Amber. When she was with Wilson, though it wouldn't have to be shippy. Just HAPPY. Do you know how many happy fics I found with Amber(while she was alive)? Well, there was one. But it was AU(which made it sad, because why can't that happen). WHERE IS MY HAPPY AMBER. (And I love that icon too! I wanted one with the scene of the crash, when her hair flies all around her face, but I fell in love with this one.)(Um, on the subject of icons, MASON!)

(Also, as [livejournal.com profile] rosa_acicularis mentioned below, you should watch 30 Rock. It's great.)

Ooh, yes! I saw bits and pieces of 30 Rock last time I was at my parents' place - have been meaning to catch up on it! :D

Man. I really like writing Wilson (I should dig up my old Housefic at some point and post it here as well), and writing Amber seems like it would be fun, and I love writing cheerful fic. I will see what I can do!

(Yay, Mason! I also use the icon when discussing Fitz, because. Yes. The casting so works.)

YES DO THAT POST IT HERE. Ahem. Where is it now, this Housefic? Archived somewhere? Damn, except I don't really have time for it now. But do post it here!

Heh :oD Yes, The Tomorrow People is excellently awesome if you're into cheesiness, bad special effects and good characters (for the most part - series one suffered from a stage actor and a child non-actor). The 70s just has this quality that I adore, but that I can't seem to identify. And Black Books is indeed very funny. Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey - what more could you ask for?
(Oh, and I somehow forgot to include Firefly in my list of favourite shows. Bad Browncoat, bad!)

b) I put noses in my smileys because they never look right without them :o)

d) Oh, I'm so glad you didn't give up on it :oD Especially not in the first few minutes - that's before Sapphire and Steel arrive! That would've been criminal. You wouldn't've seen the swooshy hair and prettiness.

e) Ummmm... Probably Doctor Who. Everything should be crossed with Doctor Who at some point, merely for the fact that it's a show that can overlap into so many other universes. I have this amusing little thought of Silver enlisting the Doctor's help to get back to The Cafe and rescuing the other two :o) And I read a sort-of-drabble once where Sapphire and Steel were waiting around in a forest for the Doctor so they could tell him off for screwing with Time so much, but as soon as he saw them he quickly exited again :oD Looking back on it, it was badly written and a little OOC, but at the time it was pretty much all I could find for S&S :o)

e) Yay, I like that icon! Someone asked me to transcribe it once, cos it went too fast for them, and I got really confused after a few goes because I thought it went round in a complicated wibbly-wobbly sort of way (even though icons can't do that, afaik), before realising it just has the phrase "Yes, but he loves Rose more" twice. *headdesk*

*recommends Blake's 7 madly* I still have two episodes of Dead Like Me to watch, and I just love it so much.

a) I don't think I mentioned this at the time, but I was about to ask to friend you in the meme, when you asked me first!

d) :D I'm so glad I could help!

e) ...that is an evil question! :) Requires some thought. I'm going away for the weekend, so will have a think about it and reply properly when I get back.

f) Thank you! I am quite proud of that one.

c) Thanks! (And I so badly need to update my recs page I can't tell you, but I'm glad someone's finding it useful.)

e) Just the one? I might decide never to write Romana out of the show, but that's just self-fanservice...er...it's not a plot point per se but I would have assured that the Sixth Doctor had far better scripts and Evelyn as a screen companion. And more importantly, offscreen, would assure that none of the early episodes were burned!

I love audios so much. Sometimes I think I may love them more then the show. I'm just as bad with replying. I usually have a ton of tabs open on things I mean to reply to and then I never do.

I think I would pick Wonderfalls to not be canceled. It had a great cast, really funny storylines, and a lot of potential. Also the writers and producers had story arcs planned out that would have gone into the second season. It's a shame the show was canceled.

I love Slayers so much. It is my comfort show. I heard a rumor that they are making a fourth series.

Oh my goodness! That would get me back into anime like nobody's business. I love that show!

Hey! It's me! [livejournal.com profile] imsanehonest! Except, you know. In a different form. *poses* Mind if I friend you with this account? It's less fandomy, but I use it more often and I miss you. *lip wibble*

Also: BSG for the win! Where are you in it, if I might ask? I just finished, so now I'm dying to find somebody else whose all caught up!

Do you know how often you confused me with your two different names? I was so puzzled whenever I saw the imsane_honest account, because I thought, 'wait, IS THAT HER BUT NOT HER??', and then I was too scared to ask in case it wasn't. Or something. But now, my bafflement has ended! Confusion is gone! Mystery solved! And I shall immediately friend you. Again. Twice. HA!!!! (Also, I miss you too. Too bad we both seem to become consumed by the horrid thing referred to in some lands as a 'life'. Sort of.)

BSG OMG. I am up to episode 5 of season 4. I've powered through most of it, because it happens to be awesome, but I think it shall take some discipline to finish season 4 - I kind of hate what they're doing to the Chief, who is my favourite and most treasured character. And everything's different and it hurts because I'm invested in these characters and OMG. *sigh* My mum's watching it, too, but she only just finished season 2, so I need someone to talk to about it, too!!! I shall endeavour to finish season 4 by the end of the week. Then we will be able to chat away to our hearts' content. *nod nod*

I totally missed this comment, yo. I didn't get the email, or something, which SUCKS. Ever since I had it from my Hotmail to my Yahoo email account the whole thing has been annoying. ANYWAY.

b) HA HA HA. Everyone that's done this meme for me has said this. And this is like four or five different people... *sigh* This makes me amused. And a little worried about my own mental health...

d) You are very good at deducting. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to deduce that. YOU SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATOR.

e) I'm pretty sure that something would be like a huge shark. A great white. Or a pod/fleet/horde/other collective noun of great whites. I had an irrational fear of them when I was younger - I even avoided going into the deep end at the pool because I imagined them swimming through the pipes from the sea and bursting through the bottom of the pool and eat everyone (obviously, this was before I knew about plumbing etc). Even now I'm wary at the beach, and find it hard to completely relax in the water. It's stupid, but...

f) Picking icons is always so incredibly hard. The amount of time it takes me choose is ridiculous. *grins*

I live to confuse and astound with my confusingness of power!

*shifty eyes* Yes, that's the standard response I'm going with... *more shiftiness ensues*

But yay for a resolution of a mystery and for our reformed BOND of power, even if it now takes is shape in a differing form... *dramatic music goes here*

Oh man, BSG. And The Chief! Man... I adore him, and there's just so much... *swallows tongue* Let me know when you're done! Like I said, I'm dying over here, but if I ruin something for you I'll flay myself on the altar of not-coolness. Which would not only be painful but, most importantly, NOT COOL, so it cannot be done. Have fun with the last few episodes, they're ridiculously awesome, and I shall patiently wait for you to finish in my little corner of anticipation. *proceeds to pace about in corner of anticipation*

OK, that was a lot more than a weekend, sorry about that. But now I have an answer: Buffy! It was a really hard choice to make, cos, so many fantastic characters, but I love her dearly. I love her courage, her strength, her determination and her humour. I love that she'll die to save the world, but she won't sacrifice who she is. She fights so hard to be Buffy and the slayer, all the time. I love watching her grow into her power, and that she makes mistakes and isn't always right, but she's always trying. And Sarah Michelle Gellar plays her so well - there's a bit in S3, Consequences I think, where she's talking to Willow and she just breaks down, gets me every time. And that is probably more than you wanted to know about my Buffy-love!
