This one's from [livejournal.com profile] wiccagirl24!

I feel like writing meta, but I'm entirely too tired lazy to pick a single subject and coherently analyse it.

SO. Throw a fannish topic at me, and I will ramble about it! Hopefully in an entertaining way.

General fandom, Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes, Man from UNCLE, Sapphire and Steel, whatever. Throw your questions in my general vicinity!

I has a question!

As someone who generally writes genfic, what are your thoughts on fandom's preoccupation with shipping? When you do find yourself shipping, what tends to attract you to a pairing?

(Aside from the magnificence of Illya's thighs, obviously.)

Subtext! In the fannish sense, not the literary-theory sense, since I, er...couldn't tell you precisely what literary subtext was. :)

Mine is sorta about subtext too! Specifically, the first eras of Doctor Who sort of don't give us too much characterization, or at least, it doesn't tell us, like modern television does. So we have to expand on it ourselves. Like, I remember when you watched The Myth Makers and said you weren't sure if Vicki stayed behind because she was in love or because she knew how history went(I think? I haven't actually watched this one yet). Anyway, do you have any thoughts along these lines? If so, please ramble.

The evolution of the Companion on Doctor Who, from Barbara to Donna. Have things improved, regressed, or stayed about the same?
