"-and sometimes," the Professor says with a fluorish, "absolutely nothing happens."
Ace sighs and jams her hands in her jacket pockets. "Well," she says, "lately it's been all monsters this and ooh-your-hair's-on-fire that. S'pose the rest can't be all bad."
"Hm," he says, and twirls his umbrella. "It might rain."
"Yeah," says Ace. "Thrill of a lifetime." He looks faintly hurt, and she softens her tone. "Nah," she says, "it'd be fine, that. Standing around in the rain for once instead of running."
They watch the clouds roll overhead for a long moment, and then the Professor snorts. "Oh, Ace," he says. "Come on."
"What?" She trails after him as he marches resolutely back to the TARDIS.
"There's absolutely nothing happening here!" he says, grinning. "You must be bored out of your mind. Let's try again, see where we wind up."
Ace can't help laughing as she jogs to keep up with his ridiculously quick pace. "Admit it, Professor, you're just as anxious to get somewhere interesting as I am. But what about the rain?"
He pauses at the door to the TARDIS, stares up. "Oh, I expect it'll still be here when we need it."
