The car runs out of petrol only a few miles from the Nuthutch, from the light and celebration, and the Doctor sighs and slams his palms against the steering wheel. Here, then, a beginning to another adventure - right here in the midst of everything. A start where there should be a finish.

He sits in the car for some time, thinking of toasts to happy couples and new beginnings, of worlds spinning and spinning and leaving him in their wake, and then he turns to watch the sun set.

The day, if nothing else, has the courtesy to end.
