He stands beneath the scattering ashes of humanity’s first contact, and knows that this is somehow right. What he has witnessed is not the destruction of the Sycorax, but of humanity, and they haven’t noticed the blood on their hands.
This is not his Earth (the adopted and adoptive planet), but something new and strange and terrifying. The song of innovation has been stifled, and he is standing where he always has, straining to hear the echoes of a lost race.
He’ll have to find a new sort of poetry in the death of innocence.
There is nothing else left.

Date: 2007-05-05 11:56 pm (UTC)This is just lovely. Really packs a large punch for such a small piece of fiction, and I always find that amazing. Boo to long windedness, long live the short but intense! I love how perfectly you captured the Doctor's emotions, and how taunt this is...
Essentially, I'm jealous. *nodnod* Great stuff!
