Stargate SG-1 Giant Picspam of Hugs

So I've got this really big post for you folks coming tomorrow, but it's occurred to me that, what with one turkey dinner and another, it might be a little late. Here's something to tide you over:

Yes, it's a Stargate SG-1 Hugspam! This only covers the first eight seasons - not that I'm not madly in love with Vala and Cam and all, but seasons one through eight are all nice and self-contained and hey, it's your requisite daily dose of Original!Team love. I'll do another for the last two seasons, I'm sure.

The inspiration for this? Hugs are awesome! During my rewatch, I got to thinking that SG-1 must contain a truly ridiculous number of hugs, and then I got to thinking that it would be pretty awesome to have a big chunk of them compiled in one place. So this is a little present to Stargate fans, a bit of a hint-hint to people who are on the fence about watching the show, and a general "Hope this makes you feel a bit more cheerful today" to everyone who stumbles across this who hasn't even heard of Stargate. Enjoy!

Lots and lots of hugs under the cut (and I mean lots - I have the fastest internet in the known universe, and it still takes a few seconds to load). It's by no means complete, and I've stayed away from a couple of really spoilery hugs - though spoilerphobes should definitely avoid this post to be safe - but if you notice something missing, chances are I honestly just missed it, because I was skimming through eight seasons of episodes, here.

(Yes, I'm still trying to figure out my screencapping on this machine - thus the red borders. Some caps are slightly lower quality because my DVDs weren't acting up to snuff.)

Before we get started, I should probably get my shipper bias out in the open, here. I'm a certifiable certified multishipper with a soft spot for Jack/anyone and Sam/Janet (there's a distressing lack of the latter in this picspam, for which I apologize profusely). I hope I haven't ignored any pairing unduly or tried to raise one above the others.

That said, I do have one pairing that is an absolute OTP, and if you don't ship it, I can't even talk to you, you fiend, you. That ship is illustrated below:

Jack/pie. Their love is pure and you know it. I'll have no Jack/cake shippers around here.

Season One

All warmed up? Let's go, then!

The first hug in the series is appropriately dramatic. Jack meets up with Daniel on Abydos for the first time in ages.

Daniel: Hello, Jack. Ah, welcome back.

Jack starts towards Daniel. The music swells!

Aaaand Jack goes right on past him.

To reunite with Skaara! Aww.

But Daniel doesn't feel too left out.

Yeah, not exactly left out.

Group hugs all around!

Aww. This is what we call a "Something-bad-is-bound-to-happen-during-this-scene" hug.

Daniel and Catherine!

Sam and Catherine!

Daniel is also the proud recipient of a hug from Unexpected Naked Dude.

Jack is slightly discomfited.

Teal'c is reconsidering the whole betraying-Apophis thing at this point. Sam, meanwhile, has fled the scene.

Daniel gets another hug from Unexpected Now-Less-Naked Dude.

Jack feels left out of all the hugging. "Catherine, hug me."

And one more hug for general heart-warminess. (Most hugtastic episode? I think so!)

Teal'c and Bra'tac!

Teal'c and Rya'c! D'awww.

Jack and Sam with a post-traumatic stresstastic hug. Guys, he's never really dead.

This has been a "Sam and Janet are Badass" interlude. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled picspam.

Sam and Cassie make me go all teary-eyed.

Okay, so not really a hug, but could you resist picspamming Jack with a puppy?

By that same logic, I have to include Sam with a cat. Named Schrodinger.

This show writes its own h/c fic, I swear. More of a clinging-for-dear-life than a hug, but you know.

Jack and Sam share an Apocalyptic!AU hug.

Season Two

Epically happy-making Jack/Daniel hug! "Space monkey. Yeah!"

More of the epic happy!

Kinda hard to see, but it's basically a giant group hug. They really like those in season openers, apparently.

Cassie and Sam again!

Cassie and Jack!

I think I read a fanfic like this once...

It's Jack and Daniel's turn for a h/c hug. "God, look at you. I know what this is. I know what it's like. You can get through it."

Teal'c and Drey'auc!

Sam and Jacob!

Daniel and Sha're. Now with 200% more angst!

Okay, okay, that's a lot of hugs.

Break for a waterfight!

Sam and Jacob again! Awww.

Hey, it's like a hug! An Ancient face-sucking hug!

Not a hug, but still an awesome moment in an awesome episode. "You know that meaning of life stuff? I think we're gonna be all right."

"Shave my head?"

I'm sorry. This screencap just cracks me up. Oh, Daniel.

Also, bad screencap, but Daniel is running around making airplane noises, and that sort of thing just has to be included.

Jacob and Sam again. <3!

Yeah, like I'm passing up the chance to picspam this episode.

Season Three

The classic "you saved my life and I saved your life" hug!

Sam and Jacob again! (What can I say? I love the whole father-daughter intergalactic heroics thing.)

AU wedding hug! (Note that this is not the same AU as above. You'll get used to that.)

When you're from a doomed AU, you tend to hug people a lot.

Poor Daniel is having a really bad day month year life.

Hugs all around!

Sam and Jacob again!

Jacob: I was thinking we could take a little father-daughter vacation together.
Sam: That'd be great, Dad.
Jacob: I hear Alaska's cold this time of year.

Sam and Schrodinger again!

Jack and Skaara!

Sam and Skaara!

Phew, time for another break!

Who's up for dessert?

Jack and Laira - let the speculation begin.

Laira: Loss is that way. I mourned my husband for a hundred days. I never left my house, I never spoke to anyone.
Jack: After that?
Laira: I left my house, and I spoke to people. Walk with me.

Season Four

Thor and Sam! "It was your stupid idea, Major Carter."

Jack and Sam!

There are so few hugs in this season that I'll take whatever I can get.

But seriously, guys, what's with the lack of hugging this season? What else could possibly be more important?

Daniel: I was right in the middle of translating that Cuniform tablet we found on P3L-255.
Sam: I still have to finish recalibrating MALP-3k's sensors for long-term reconnaissance on P5X-3D7.
Teal'c: I was unable to complete my Kelnorim.
Jack: I was just about to do something important.

Daniel and Sarah!

This just looks funny out of context. Actually, in-context Jack's adjusting Daniel's glasses for him, so that's kinda fun, too.

Sam and Hammond! Aww.

Sam and Joe!

Daniel is having a really, really bad day.

Not exactly a hug, but still!

Yes, that's Jack putting himself into a headlock. Only in sci-fi.

Season Five

Jack and Daniel desperately need hugs, here.

Jack: I should've seen it coming.
Daniel: Well, I thought the key to a good ambush was to make sure that you don't see it coming. My point is that I'm sure you did your best.
Jack: Apparently it wasn't good enough.

Jack and Teal'c! A (very) short-lived moment of happy.

Wait, is that the doorbell?

Why, it's Jack and Teal'c! Keep in mind that Sam has just stashed a cute-but-clueless alien dude into her back room before opening the door.

Sam: Hey, guys. What are you doing here?
Jack: We brought pizza and a movie.
Teal'c: Star Wars.
Jack: He's seen it, what, eight times?
Teal'c: Nine.
Jack: Nine times. If Teal'c likes it, it's gotta be okay.
Sam: *pause* You've never seen Star Wars?
Jack: Well, you know me and sci-fi.

Also, one of my favourite quotes, from the same episode. Cute-but-clueless alien dude has just built a Stargate in Sam's basement.

Sam: And you ordered the materials online?
Alien dude: Mostly. Sorry, but you're gonna have a pretty big credit card bill this month. Oh, and you're going to need a new toaster.

Okay, back to the hugs.

Sam and Jacob again!

And, yeah, not a hug, except maybe in a metaphysical sort of way:

Jack: So... where are you going?
Daniel: I don't know.

Season Six

Teal'c and Rya'c! I love this scene. "You need never win back my trust, my son, for you have never lost it."

Sam and that Rodney McKay fellow you may have heard of once or twice!

Rodney: That means you don't hate me!
Sam: Maybe. Too bad for you.
Rodney: Why?
Sam: I was more attracted to you when I did.
Rodney: Really?

And Rodney wanders off with a very determined "must make people hate me more" expression. ♥

This is a public service announcement from Jonas Quinn, reminding you to bring a banana for all your death-defying spaceflight needs. Now who's gonna write me the requisite Doctor Who crossover?

And "Abyss" totally counts, because Jack so needs a hug.

Jack: Okay. Put yourself in my shoes, and me in yours.
Daniel: You'd be here for me.
Jack: Damn straight. I'd have busted you out, blown this rat-hole to hell, and made sure that son of a bitch suffered.
Daniel: The others would have stopped you.
Jack: They'd have a hell of a fight on their hands.
Daniel: You wouldn't do-
Jack: Ba'al would be dead-
Daniel: Jack-
Jack: -and don't think I'd stop there.
Daniel: You're a better man than that.
Jack: That's where you're wrong.

Teal'c and Jack show off their "Why yes, we are supremely awesome" pose.

Sam and Teal'c!

Sam and Jack! Aww.

Time-out for that episode where they're all firefighters!

Crack? In my canon? It's more likely than you think!

Teal'c and Shan'auc!

Jack and Skaara! (with bonus supervising producers, sorry)

Season Seven

Unexpected Naked Daniel!

Jonas and Sam!

Hey, it's that part where Sam starts humming the Stargate theme in the elevator! (Apparently Amanda Tapping wanted to hum the MacGyver theme but couldn't remember the tune on the day of shooting. Alas!)

Sam and Pete!

Jack and Sam! Between this episode and "Grace", Sam needs a hug for this whole season.

Jack and Sam again, in a scene that makes me go ;_;.

Teal'c and Sam! Same goes for this scene. Curse you, show, for going all dark, there.

You know, Lost City was an awesome, awesome episode, but the very best scene of them all was everyone showing up at Jack's place, and so I must transcribe it.

Jack: What are you doing here?
Daniel: No, well, it's actually a funny story. Um. We were driving by and we saw Sam's car in the driveway and-
Jack: *to Sam* Funny.
Daniel: -and Teal'c said to me - well, he didn't really say anything, he just kinda, you know, looked at me and did that eyebrow-raise thing that he kinda does and- and I said to him, I said, "Hey! Why don't we stop by and-"
Jack: Is that donuts?
Teal'c: *holds up box* Indeed.
Jack: *Mr. Burns voice* Excellent.

And then they get drunk. Drunk!Daniel absolutely cracks me up.

Jack: You are so wrong. It's the perfect analogy. Burns as Goa'uld.
Teal'c: They are merely animated characters, O'Neill.
Jack: You're so... shallow.
Daniel: *drops his orange in outraged shock* Oh, please. Teal'c's, like, one of the deepest people I know. He's so deep! *to Teal'c* Come on, tell him how deep you are. *to Jack* You'll be lucky if you can understand this.
Teal'c: My depth is immaterial to this conversation.
Daniel: Ohhh, you see?
*long pause*
Jack: No more beer for you.

Jack and Teal'c!

And one of my favourite moments:

Teal'c: O'Neill, I wish for you to know that-

Time for a MASSIVE EPIC BATTLE OVER ANTARCTICA OH YES. Okay, so it's hard to get a feel for the epicness because most of the best shots are all shaky-cam and therefore not great for capping, but still.

Season Eight

Pete and Sam!

Jack and Sam! Yes, that is a horse in the background. Don't ask.

And now it's time for me to get all flaily because VALA.

Vala: Oh, you hit me.
Daniel: You hit me.
Vala: You know, we could just have sex instead.

What follows is the hilarious fight scene to end all hilarious fight scenes.

Yes, Daniel's doing the I-am-crushing-your-head thing.

Jacob and Jack! Unfortunately, Jacob missed the hug-tiem-nao memo.

Jack: Jacob!
Jacob: Jack, we got a problem. We need to talk.
Jack: Hi? Hello? How are you? Long time no see? What's doing? What's up? Hey, buddy?

Sam and Jack!

Unexpected Naked Daniel: The Sequel! Jack cracks me up in this scene, all "Hey, look at that floor, isn't that an interesting floor? And this wall. Looking in this direction."

Jack is getting a thrilling lecture about rocks when Daniel runs in.

Daniel: Jack, we need to talk! Oh, sorry for interrupting.
Jack: *grabs him* No! It's okay. If it's important, you must interrupt. You must.
Daniel: I think we may have found a ZPM.
Jack: *jumps up* Yes! *to geologist dude* Great stuff with the rocks. *to Daniel, who's actually bouncing up and down* Go.
*they run away*

And the sheer crack that is Moebius:

Daniel: We're supposed to be a team. We saved the world.
Sam: Several times.
Jack: *in a super-Minnesotan accent* Yeah. Okay. Sure. I'll buy that. Uh-huh. The three of us. The world. We save it. Great. Okay.

And that's all I've got for you! Hope you enjoyed - this took a truly insane amount of time to finish.

And a request in return: Rec me some good fic in this fandom! I'm mostly looking for gen, but any pairing will be fine by me. Also, I don't know the LJ fandom well at all - where should I crosspost this, if at all?

This is a great subject for a picspam! I hadn't noticed how many hugs there were.

There are 99 fic recs here. These are mostly from me (I used to ship Jack/Sam and Jack/Daniel, although have since moved on Jack/Elizabeth (Atlantis)) and a friend of mine (she shipped Jack/Daniel and Sam/Janet) so there's plenty of choice there. And I think probably all relatively old stuff because we've been seduced into other fandoms since :)

Awesome picspam! Hugs are excellent!

I had only previously seen the odd episode on a sunday afternoon, but after this picspam I feel I must watch it properly for all the huggy epicness and such. Yay.

[identity profile] earlwyn.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Look at all those awesome hugs! And teamliness! Man, I wish I had a week free so I could sit down and marathon all of SG-1 straight through. This has totally made my night.

And why didn't I think of Jonas Quinn and the Doctor before? Obviously they are fated to meet.

Very awesome. I was giggling all the way through. Oh, Team. I love them. And I completely forgot about the horse and the the head squishing.

Glad you liked!

Oh, man. One week with nothing to do but marathon SG1? That would be the very definition of awesome. Someday!

And why didn't I think of Jonas Quinn and the Doctor before? Obviously they are fated to meet.

I may have started plotting a totally self-indulgent crossover fic already.

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Glad you liked it! And thank you so much - I'll go leave a comment on someone else's newsletter for once. ;)

[identity profile] earlwyn.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, write it, write it! If you posted it, I might actually have the motivation to finish my Rodney McKay/Ace McShane crossover of disgruntled-teenage awesome.

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
...wow, now I definitely need to drop everything I'm doing and post it, because, um. That sounds amazing.

Seriously, can I offer you cookies? A beverage? Pie? My firstborn child? Personalized weather forecasts for a year? Motivation I can do!

[identity profile] earlwyn.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! It would be so epic. They can bond over bombs! And horrible first names! And Ace could teach Rodney how to kick ass and take names!

Hrm. *puts on bardering face* I will trade you Rodney and Ace for Jonas and the Doctor. Bananas! Really, really smart fast-talking!

There needs to be more Stargate/Who crossovers.

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, man, I hadn't even thought of the first-name thing. *snickers* The Explosive Adventures of Dorothy and Meredith. It'll be epic, indeed.

And I think we've got a deal! Dang. Now I've got this microphysics midterm on Tuesday and all I want to do is write fanfic. ;)

There needs to be more Stargate/Who crossovers.

Yes! This just means that it's up to us to do our part for the bettering of fandom. *dramatic pose*

[identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
You must do one for the last two seasons because of the hug in my icon!

(and if there are crossovers to be had, Sam and Vala need to become Romana's companions trufax)

[identity profile] penfold-x.livejournal.com 2009-10-12 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness, you are taking me all the way down memory lane (I cut my mediafan teeth in SG-1 fandom; most of my close friends that I met through fandom came through SG-1)! Thanks for this--I bet it took an eternity to put together, but it's a wonderful record.

I have some recs to share, all gen (though I do love me some Jack/Pie). Preface: my tastes are for long, novel length stories with a lot of H/C, Jack and Daniel friendship, with a side of team bonding. It's not everyone's taste, but it's a niche that had a lot of really excellent writers back in the day (some of whom have turned pro).

Fate's Reflection by Yum@, the grandaddy of SG-1 H/C novels. Epic length, featuring our team and their post-apocalyptic mirror universe doubles (a mirror universe in which one of Daniel's foster families is the O'Neills). Words can't express how much I love this story. Yum@ also published an outstanding SG-1 zine, Foundations, which I would look for if you collect printfic.

Any novel by ELG, but especially Ripples, Into the Labyrinth, and The Quality of Mercy. If you want to get a taste of ELG's prose without committing to a novel-length story, try True Value, a very enjoyable short story.

True Foundations by Scribe. Really, you can read anything that she wrote and enjoy it (including her "shower series"), but this is my favorite, a remix of the Voyager ep, "The Chute". Prison planet--you know you want some of that!

Foundations and Demons by Brenda. Really, anything by Brenda is excellent (if you like Ghostbusters or the Jossverse, you want to check out all her stuff).

Gatejunkie has written lots and lots of great SG-1 stories (and published an outstanding zine, Gateways, that I would definitely look for if you're into collecting printfic), but Hell to Pay is a personal favorite.

Walls is one of my favorite Jmas stories, that has a good sequel, Windows and Walls. Jmas has written tons of good SG-1 fic, much of it shorter than novel-length, if the novels are off-putting.

If you like Sam, you'll probably like In the Name of Science by PHO, a great Sam-centric action/adventure piece (with some H/C of course).

Don't know if you care for some Atlantis with your SG-1, but Martha Wilson has written a wonderful AU crossover series that starts with Retrograde. Especially recommended if you like post-apocalyptic flavor.

And if you still don't have enough, try "Battlefields" or "In the Valley of the Shadow" by Ellen Caldera or "Hand in Hand" by JB at this site.

You're very welcome!

I was obsessed with J/D back in my college days, so I still have a huge list of bookmarked fic, if you need more. :D

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I just came across that hug in a music video, though I haven't seen the episode yet! ♥ ♥

(and if there are crossovers to be had, Sam and Vala need to become Romana's companions trufax)

...okay, I think I want to just write awesome crossover fic for the rest of my life, now.

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Thank you so, so much for these recommendations! I have this habit of jumping into well-established fandoms extremely late, and it's always so much fun to discover the fannish history. (And as a bonus, your ficly tastes line up perfectly with mine - nice!)

I haven't been reading much fic in any fandoms recently, so it's going to be so nice to settle back in to the odd evening of quality reading. Thanks again!

[identity profile] palmetto.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's almost more awesome than the universe can handle. Especially if you, you know, throw in Romana's wifebodyguard and their dogs.

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2009-10-14 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if they exceed this universe's awesome quota, they can always head to the next!

But man, that would be epic. My brain tried to imagine a conversation between Romana and Vala and just... imploded.
