Layout, I kick you. (also: HALP?)

IN THE FACE.

I'm completely lost unless I'm working from scratch, so here am I all lazy and going for a lovely premade layout - and that big stupid grey box pops up right on top. Anyone have a clue what they're doing? More than me? I've swapped a few things around without any luck.

EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] settiai is made of win. :D

All I can contribute is a further problem--half of the left sidebar is invisible (off the edge of the screen) for me.

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, that just figures! Thanks for the heads-up - I guess I'll just go back to the old one, then. Figure this mess out later.

I'm going to get into my spare account and fiddle around with the coding. I'll let you know if I can figure out what's wrong. :)

ETA: What layout type is it for?

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! :D I was planning on spending a little time messing around with it this evening, but I'm sure you'll be able to spot stuff I'd probably miss.

Thanks again!

Whoop, just caught your edit - it's for "Smooth Sailing".

Try this and let me know if it works now. I think I've fixed all the errors, but I might have missed something small.

Hmm. I just viewed your journal with the layout, and it's still a bit off. One sec, let me tweak something.

Okay, I think I've got it fixed for real this time.

http://www.settiai.com/coding.txt

Your friends only banner is a little too large for the new layout - it overlaps into the sidebar. If you see any other problems, let me know and I'll see if I can fix them.

Re: Here you go...

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, thank you so much! (Have fixed up the banner to fit.)

I hereby owe you fic of your choice! Ask and ye shall receive. :D

One last time, with the footer image actually working. Though I'm not sure what's up with those two thin lines streaking across the bottom.

http://www.settiai.com/coding.txt

Ooh, fic's always nice. How about I tell you my favorite TARDIS "teams" and let you surprise me? That way you can pick whatever you're most comfortable with writing. :)

Thanks, will fix it up again! :D

That way you can pick whatever you're most comfortable with writing. :)

Hee, sounds good! (Of course, me? I love 'em all. Feel free to recommend whatever you like!)

I'm finishing up "Argumentum Ad Metam" tonight, so new fic ideas = hooray! :)

I love 'em all.

You're not the only one. That's why I can't narrow it down too much. ;-)

First Doctor, Ian, Barbara, and Susan; Second Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe; Third Doctor and Jo (with the Brigadier, Benton, and/or Mike - needless to say, I've been loving "Argumentum Ad Metam"); Fourth Doctor, Harry, and Sarah Jane; Fifth Doctor, Tegan, Turlough; Sixth Doctor and Evelyn; Seventh Doctor, Ace, and Hex; Eighth Doctor and Fitz for the EDAs (with Charley and C'rizz for BF); any combinations of new school.

I'm finishing up "Argumentum Ad Metam" tonight, so new fic ideas = hooray! :)

I can't wait to see how it ends. *sheepish grin* Have I commented yet on it? I can't remember. I just wait until the last chapter before actually saying anything.

Re: Here you go...

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hee - you've just listed all my favourite teams. So, um, carry on as planned, then? *grins* I can actually see myself starting epic-fics about any of the above, so when I inevitably do, you'll be the one to blame thank. ;) (Hey, there's already "Argumentum Ad Metam" for Three and Jo; "The Deepsky Atlas" for Four, Harry and Sarah; "The Wanderer Fantasy" for Nu!Who fun times; and "The Empty Planet" for Fitz!)

I just wait until the last chapter before actually saying anything.

Hee, yes, I do the same. I'm extremely pleased with the feedback I have been getting, though - I'm always all flaily and squeeful when I come across fellow Third Doctor fans.

(When I finish this fic, though, it'll be the longest one I've ever actually finished, which makes me happy/gives me hope for the other WIPs!)

Really glad you've been enjoying "Argumentum Ad Metam" - I love writing this TARDIS team. :D
settiai: (Harry/Sarah Jane -- calapine)

Re: Here you go...

[personal profile] settiai 2008-02-10 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I've been enjoying "The Deepsky Atlas" too, though I have a sinking feeling that I haven't commented on it yet either. *another sheepish grin* I have them both added as favorites on Teaspoon, and bookmarked on del.icio.us, so maybe that counts for something?

Hmm. I think the longest story that I've actually finished has been about 13,000 words. And it featured the Third Doctor and Jo too. (Well, and the Ninth Doctor, Rose, and Jack. Plus the Tenth Doctor and Martha. But the UNIT team was just as important!) I wonder what it is about them that makes us want to write longer stories. ;-)

I've got to get to work on my [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang story, though, before it kills me.

Hee, of course! I like feedback, but it also makes me all happy just to know people are reading, somewhere.

And it featured the Third Doctor and Jo too.

Do you know, "Twisting Paths" has been on my to-read list for ages! I've just bumped it up the list. :D I love multi-era fic so much (is... is there an LJ community for multi-era fic/discussion? Because if there isn't, there should be, and I think I've just found my latest project.)

I've got to get to work on my tardis_bigbang story, though, before it kills me.

(And I'm very excited, by the way, at the prospect of a long!fic featuring the Fourth Doctor and Sarah!)

But yes, me too! The whole reason I started on "Argumentum Ad Metam" was because I wanted to prove to myself that I could write a 20,000 word fic in a week, if things got really out of hand and I was running too close to deadline. (The answer? Probably, although the plot gets a bit convoluted.) That's a weird sort of procrastination, I guess! :D
settiai: (Fourth Doctor -- settiai)

Re: Here you go...

[personal profile] settiai 2008-02-10 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't know if there's a multi-era community. I haven't seen one, but that doesn't mean anything. But if there isn't, then you're absolutely right about there needing to be one.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I can get "Wings in the Night" finished in time. I've had it plotted out for ages, but every time I sit down to work on it something else gets in the way and I have to put it off. I know that I can write a 13,000 word story in two days, if I don't sleep, so I should hopefully be able to get it done before I leave for London since I don't know what my internet access will be like after that. :-/

[identity profile] eponymous-rose.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Out of curiosity, is the problem still happening, or has [livejournal.com profile] settiai's expertise fixed it?

[identity profile] eers.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's been a long time since I saw CSS code... Love the layout!

Whoop - [livejournal.com profile] multi_who. Should've known someone would've come up with that!

Also - ooh, trip to London! That's exciting. I've only ever been there very briefly (we were supposed to just take the Chunnel through to Belgium, but there was a strike so we wound up sightseeing in London instead), but it was great. Keep wanting to go back!
